Not like he does triathlons (or does he? o_O)

What he is doing for cardio should be similar to what DC is doing since they are in the same camp. But DC gassed.

Was he born this way? Or he's running on pure heart?

He gassed hard in JDS II and III. It's just that JDS gassed even more than him.

Looks like genetics and great mental skills. He gassed in his fights by the way, just not as much as his opponents.

He punched JDS like a million times in the second and third fight and was still working quite hard

I think people overrate his cardio it is good but it is only good for heavyweight standards.

He's a HW who has never gassed and gone 5 rounds twice, also he always pushes the pace.

At first it were only rumors from his teammates and everyone simply took their word for good but in the 2nd and 3rd JDS fights he proved it to be true

I don't remember where but DC spoke on Cain's cardio. He talked about it not being excellent rather it's good but Cain just has the mental toughness to keep up his pace even when he's gassed. Also he knows that his opponent will always be more tired than him and he knows how he can rest while still scoring.

He said in one of the JDS rematches Cain told him that he felt like he was about to faint. Velaquez still went out there and continued the beating.

Compared to other HWs. Obviously smaller guys have the best cardio.

I am in no way hating on his cardio or anything, I believe he has the best cardio at HW by far it is great. I do think that some LHW's could push him pretty hard and make him gas out. Just my opinion though feel free to think it sucks :)

Seems like any heavyweight that can go 5 rounds has "great cardio" when in actuality, he's got great anaerobic endurance.
To compare him with DC or anyone is just ridiculous, there's too many factors:
    Genetics
    Age
    Body type
Muscle fiber makeup (slow vs fast twitch)
    Natural hormone levels
    Etc

that's like saying "they do the same stuff so they should have the same skill level"

There's also other factors that contribute to gassing in the ring/cage:
    Weight cut
    Actual VO2 max
    Genetics
    Body composition
    Mental state
    Adrenaline
Lactic acid buildup (usually from grappling)
    Damage taken (injuries sustained)
And of course, the fight itself...some are obviously more grueling than others and will affect your physiology in different ways

There's just too many variables when comparing individuals

A better idea is to compare someone to their previous self and figure when he had better performances and do their best to duplicate that preparation

^ muscle Fiber is a good point.
Cain is not as explosive as DC.

Saw a documentary a while back and his dad said that Cain was always extremely active and full of energy as a kid. He used to be able to just keep going and going and going when others couldn't.

Then he went into wrestling and did so much hard work there and it becomes even better for his cardio and now he's an MMA fighter. Cain has been a cardio machine ever since he was a kid.

What likely makes people talk about his cardio so much is because he's a heavyweight and puts on a pace that nobody else can do in the division. What you see with Cain is extremely rare in terms of cardio when talking about heavyweights.

    Well, i'ts the hype machine.

I mean, he is supposed to be this cardio God but he went only 3 times over the 2nd round in his entire carreer. The 2 times he went over the third he slowed down hard. How do we know he is really that good?

I mean yes, he's a great athlete who can keep a really high pace but c'mon! People act like he can run 6 marathons in a row.
