Why is boxing technique so bad in mma

MMA fighters have to train in so many disciplines.. That is why Floyd gets raped in the cage..

Junior is supposedly an elite boxer but had his left hand low when he tried to uppercut making blade catch him with the right.

I see this sloppiness all the time causing people to get ktfo in the ufc.

How hard is it to keep to focus on the basics?
Largely shitty coaches

If you wanna box properly u gotta hit up a pure gym that eats, sleeps, breathes boxing.

Lotta guys started learning how to throw hands from their mma coach, their kickboxing, Muay thai or Karate coach.

You gotta learn how to box correctly from the jump. The brain will absorb and reinforce any poor habits you give it.

It can be very difficult to go back later and fix those things, even with a proper coach.

Think we see a lot of that in mma.

The people out there who keep repeating that mma is a different sport with different defensive strategies, are you really saying that mma striking coaches teach you to keep your non striking hand low while punching with the other in order to defend a takedown?

That cannot be right.

I think because fighters and fans have convinced themselves boxing technique isn't applicable to MMA because of threat of takedowns and so on. So they abandon tried and true techniques for wild looping punches leaving themselves exposed.

If they used proper boxing technique in the right situations they would be 100% better fighters. Know when to use it when not too.
When JDS threw that overhand right against Ngannou from way out he left himself completely exposed for either counter shot or takedown so you can't say he was doing that because MMA is different and you have to watch out for TD. And we know Ngannou isn't going for a TD just home run punches. Just one example.

The sport is still in it's infancy it's only like 25 years old

JDS was fighting a wrestler

Wrestlers lay waste to strikers standing due to TD threat. This has happened since the inception of MMA, what is so hard to grasp? Go train in MMA against good grapplers and you will see first hand.

Because they’re no pro boxers? And have to train everything?

derp derp derp

Because MMA fighters can't focus all their training on a single aspect of fighting?
regardless, they're top level fighters and even amateur boxers know better than to keep their hands low when punching OP is right about this one

I think a more interesting question is ‘why is boxing so weak in MMA, relative to other combat sports’....and even that’s not a particularly interesting question.

The answer is surely money. If you can box at a decent level, then in most cases it makes sense to stick with boxing. Same with Muay Thai or kickboxing - both have avenues to make money. There’s a reason we see world class grapplers go into MMA but very rarely (if ever) see a world class striker do the same.
Where do talented grapplers like Romero or Maia really go to make money after they’ve been successful in wrestling/BJJ? The obvious answer is MMA.

The notion that boxing doesn’t work in MMA is completely false though. Like any other art, it just needs adapted. Wrestlers don’t use a conventional wrestling stance in MMA, Jits guys don’t use a jits stance, Muay Thai guys don’t use a traditional Thai stance.....obviously any boxer is going to need to adapt too. They absolutely could and do make dangerous fighters though - punching someone in the head is and always will be the quickest and most high percentage way of knocking someone out.

And JDS is absolutely NOT an elite level boxer.

Relatively is so important.

An elite grappler in MMA is usually someone who’s come from either Olympic wrestling or high level BJJ.

An elite striker in MMA is normally someone who had a few amateur boxing bouts as a kid, spent a few years training Muay Thai in a casual basis, or comes from a more obscure sport like Karate.

That’s a world of difference.

Because they weren't good enough to make it as boxers.

Cody Garbrandt is someone who has elite boxing in MMA.

And people talk about the MMA boxing is shit because of the other elements but that's not true. Garbrandts movement and footwork is all boxing. His boxing defense is how he was dancing all around Cruz, and how he was lighting TJ up in both their fights.

It’s the hardest thing to learn , people forget gsp was a striker before a wrestler . It’s like dancing some people just don’t have rhythm

It’s not as simple as that. If boxers had to worry about takedowns their stance and techniques would be different. It’s irritating when you hear boxers perpetuating this nonsense. They’re different sports.

DEPENDS ON STYLE.

JDS ALWAYS had his hands very low to stop the TD but that takes his defense on his chin. Also the level of experience, training and fundamentals is extremely low in comparison to actual boxers.
