Junior is supposedly an elite boxer but had his left hand low when he tried to uppercut making blade catch him with the right.

I see this sloppiness all the time causing people to get ktfo in the ufc.

How hard is it to keep to focus on the basics?

Probably because they're different sports with different defensive considerations

What does that have to do with covering your face with the non striking hand?

Because MMA fighters can't focus all their training on a single aspect of fighting?

So, think about how much a boxer trains for boxing

Now think about how much an MMA fighter trains for boxing

Now think about the different glove sizes and defensive techniques assosciated with that

Now think about all the grappling you need to know to not be a complete tomato can in MMA

Gee, I wonder why boxers are better than MMA fighters at boxing.

Because MMA fighters train many different disciplines that often involve different stances and different distances than boxing, it just ends up being fundamentally different.

When you expect a takedown, you try to put your hands down to get underhooks and stop the TD. Therefore your hands arent covering your face when your opponent throws an overhand instead.

    JDS was fighting a wrestler

Wrestlers lay waste to strikers standing due to TD threat. This has happened since the inception of MMA, what is so hard to grasp? Go train in MMA against good grapplers and you will see first hand.

If a striker fights a wrestler he can often forget fighting up close, so the distance is longer and so are the punches.

Nobody in mma comes from a boxing backgroung, if they did then they weren't very good at it. It's more likely that they come from a grappling background, which uses muscle differently and leads to that stiff appearance when striking. MMA fighters that do come from striking backgrounds are from other disciplines where the focus on boxing isn't as high. Looking at JDS bio it says he started off doing capoiera and then bjj and then finally boxing as an adult. He was never some high level boxer, his hands just looked good compared to the even worse boxers he was fighting in the heavyweight division so they hyped him up like he was some boxing guru

Um, because MMA fighters also have to defend against kicks, takedowns, clinch, etc?

Cause they have to train in other disciplines of fighting and not just boxing? Duh. Are you slow?

This has been discussed plenty of times.

mma strikers are not good boxers or they would be boxing.

top level boxers could KO mma fighters off their backs with a short punch.

    takedown threats are irrelevant.

Wilder or fury would win by tko broken hand every touch of gloves with an mma fighter

takedown threat takes a lot of boxing technique, but the fact is that lots of MMA fighters lack boxing fundamentals. s
