So reflecting back on UFC 155, I realized alotta things. Yushin Okami utterly dominated Alan Belcher in the grappling department. Okami could've been 3-0 this year if Boestch didn't make that epic comeback in the 3rd round & he out grappled Buddy Roberts as well, he's a grinder but couldn't implement his game on Silva whatsoever & got embarrassed. Leben's known as a striker which made Brunson fear for his life an he resorted to grinding Lebens energy out. Yet in Silva's debut in the UFC he had no problem wrecking Leben. Costa did good against Boestch, but his stand up looked so inferior in comparison to Silva, Silva's just light years ahead of the MW division. He would've embarrassed any MW fighting this past weekend at 155. Why is Silva so phoenomenal? I'm gonna be sad the day he retires because nobody will ever imitate what he's done in MMA for a long time.
i wouldnt say okami utterly dominated belcher... watch the fight... belcher threw away so many positions and made so many mistakes when he was in control
His great technique coupled with a huge willingness to win, he has so many tool in the toolbox to win.
his reputation precedes him, it's very intimidating and his domination becomes a self fulfilling prophecy many fighters have already lost before they even step inside that cage. Okami for example was completely shook to beat Silva you must completely disrespect him and believe it before the fight
on paper Anderson looks better. but if you think about it, Jones has already defeated 5 former UFC champions, while anderson has only defeated 2 edit: actually anderson defeated 3. forgot about belfort. so yeah theyre pretty close in accomplishment
lol. I edited my post. the only reason I say theyre close in accomplishments is because of how much Jones accomplished in such a short time. anderson is still ahead, now that i think of it
THIS, THIS, and THIS! I know it has to be extremely tough, but a fighter must overcome the awe of being in the same cage with Silva. You have to be like Sonnen and be all over him from the opening bell. However, you need 4 attributes to pull off this strategy: 1) Sub defense - Silva has nasty subs, and he uses strikes to open them up very well. Anybody can get tapped if they are half conscious. 2) Iron chin + React well to pain - You're going to get hit hard and often, so you need a naturally good chin. But you also can't be like Brock and abandon your gameplan once you get tagged. 3) Cardio - Silva is dangerous for all 25 minutes, so there will be no time to catch your breath. If you give him room to move and time to think, you will get KOd with some video game move. 4) Takedowns - There are a few guys who could strike with Silva, but I would never recommend it as anything but a last resort. And they had better be powerful double leg TDs that drive his back through the mat. Trying to use trips or throws will catch you a knee in the solar plexus, which I hear is not enjoyable.
Okami capitalized on those mistakes & just kept him grounded, Belcher consistently went for the Guillotine & gassed himself out. Belcher had a hard time popping up regardless and he just kept getting grinded against the cage and taken down and held there. The only thing Belcher got the better of him was the stand up, but Okami dictated the fight. He had Belchers back against the Fence the whole time.
1. Extreme self confidence 2. Probably good vision 3. Good reflexes 4. Picking the right thing to do at the right time 5. His opponents being a bit scared
