Why I think Conor will beat Khabib - because Khabib wants to prove he's well rounded

Conor is by far the better striker and Khabib is by far the better wrestler and far more well-rounded. This fight is one one of two ways, Conor hurts Khabib standing and finishes him or Khabib gets Conor to the ground and finishes him. I don't believe that Conor is one of those extremely durable fighters like Hunt who can take a ton of damage standing and on the ground, if Khabib gets McGregor down once it's probably over for Conor. On the other hand, Khabib has been rocked in quite a few of his fights and he likes to throw quite a bit with his TD attempts.

Khabib is too proud to rush out and go for an immediate TD like Couture did against James Toney. Khabib will want to mix it up some and then go for the TD and he is fairly confident in his striking even though it isn't very good.

I see Khabib standing a bit with Conor, throwing a lunging punch and getting countered and dropped where Conor will follow him to the ground for the GnP. If Conor's smart he'll let Khabib back up for the standing KO if he isn't 100% sure that Khabib is hurt very bad otherwise Conor could quickly get reversed or taken down and then lose a fight that he had in the bag.

However, I see Conor winning this fight in this manner. If Khabib played it smart and only threw the least he needed to to then get the TD he'd win but he won't, he'll stand and bang a bit and get caught by Conor and finished.

    Agree/Disagree?

He might try to stand for a little bit because he is so prideful. Crazier things have happened. Jose decided to open up with a lunging punch and that didn’t pan out so well.

I think we all know what Conor needs to do to have a chance. Lots of lateral movement, distance management, countering Khabib rushing him while on his backfoot. Achieving those things is the tricky part.

Conor's stand-up is light years ahead, but if didn't take the time to develop his wrestling defense and ground game he's going to get crushed.

Khabib isn't stupid. He will bum rush Conor with the takedown. He even said he plans on wrestling in this fight.

Probably not gonna happen. If this was under PrideFC i'd give Conor a much stronger chance.

Khabibs striking isn't as bad as it seems. It is based on his ground game and how to get there quick. He has a high head, but that is so he won't take a full punch, he can back up, duck down, and get a hold of his opponent.

Agreed — he knows when he has the luxury to “showcase” and when he needs to go to
    His bread and butter

Way too much one the line for him to take any risks — we all know what he needs to do to win

This is "by far" the most ridiculous statement on sherdog. Far more well rounded? TF are you smoking

lol get the entire fuck out of here TS.

Khabib doesn't have to prove anything to anyone after he leaves Conor's broken body on the canvas. That's the beauty of winning. It doesn't matter how you win - ask Woodley how that's working out for him. Last I checked he's still champion. And I'd like to see all the footage of Khabib getting rocked. He's never been wobbled, never been on unsteady feet. You guys are thinking that because he took a single damn power shot over the course of a fight he's suddenly got a glass jaw.

Conor has no answer for Khabib's wrestling, and that's not exactly a knock on him because no one else does either. Khabib has an answer for Conor's striking and that's wrestling. It's not incomprehensible that a man that starched Jose Aldo could knock someone out but in these striker vs grappler match ups the grappler usually wins because it's a hell of a lot easier to secure a TD than a single KO strike.

Khabib should be smart enough to save that for the later rounds, when Conor has less gas left in the tank. He'll probably end up "out-striking" Conor in the later rounds because of this, and have people on here saying that Khabib is the better "striker."

Unfortunately, Conor has terrible lateral movement

Yes, like all of the bodies he has left broken on the canvas so far in the UFC. You know, the 6 out of 10 fights that went to decision, or the 2 submission wins over Michael Johnson and some guy no ones even heard of. Maybe like the finish over that part time mechanic or the other killer who currently fights in the PFL. What a beast

I don't think with a lifetime of training Conor could gain the TD defense necessary to stop Khabib.

It's not about proving it to you clown, it's about proving it to himself.

He's already said he's stood and banged with other fighters to test himself.
