Why dont you guys ever talk about technique?

There are no forums for technique. The subforums tend to dissect techniques and discuss how to train while the main forums are full of MMA crackheads who don't go deeper into the sport than sweaty dudes in bikini briefs bombing each other. It's rare that threads appreciating and discussing a fighter's technical abilities and strategies finds a home here.

this is true, they're not fighter-specific discussions, but "if I throw a hook like that, does it work for you?" type of topics. Not "break down Vitor's striking skill set", which can be seen in the HW's. Plus, technique sub-forums are slow as hell, there are a small fraction of sherdog posters there and it can take days for a thread to get going.

I think there needs to be a subforum focused on Sherdog-forum-posting-strategy. We need a place to discuss all of the nuances and intricacies that play into effective posting techniques, topic selection, counter-arguments, etc.

I just like the violence myself, but over in ask the fighters there seem to be several people who know what they are talking about...

Seems like most people who post in the Heavies don't train in anything.

no kidding...TS wants everyone to know how well versed he is in the finer points of mma. Snobs can be just as bad as the just bleed fans.

Look up kolat wrestling for wrestling technique you wanna know on YouTube. There's a ton of good jj vids on there. No point in talking about when there are more vids than you can ever watch.

This is the problem. The problem is not that there isn't a subforum to discuss techniques in context of training, but that there isn't a forum where people are discussing techniques seen in UFC fights.

Its either "Vitor is looking ripped!!!" or "How to throw a jab in 600 different ways".

I like her to feel my breath on her neck first, then....oh wait.
you mean fighting don't you..

From the grappling forum over the last two days.

I mainly post in the grappling forum, and if people ask in there I try to respond if its something I can help people with, even if they dont train. There are heaps of people in the grappling forum like this, and im sure the striking technique sub forum is the same. I think people (heavies posters) either dont know about the sub forums or they are too intimidated to post there? Either way its probably a better place to post as % wise you will get more people who know what they're talking about, and the traffic is slower so your question is less likely to get lost in amongst the "Vitor is ripped" "fighter x is over rated threads".

The whole sub forum seems to be built around discussing technique to help with training, not from a fan perspective.

For example, the TS in the first link want's to know about the darce choke because "but man would I like to learn that", not just to discuss whats happening in the UFC in general.

On the other hand, that would be pretty sweet to learn, but I'm currently not training and just want to enjoy fights and talking about fights, not training.

Yes but you could start a thread there and discuss it. Recently there was a thread praising Holdsworths bjj, another thread was a gif of an armbar that Marcin Held did in Bellator, another thread was about the best sweeps you had seen in mma.

If you dont believe me start a thread about something next time (or now!). It doesnt matter if you dont train or arent interested in training, in fact it just makes those who do feel smarter and more happy to join the discussion :D

I can only speak for myself, but I love talking about fights! I just prefer to stay away from the heavies too often because of the trolls and just bleed fans. 99% of the grappling forum aren't elitists who will refuse to respond, if you dont train. If you get chewed out feel free to blame me!

Cheers for the encouragement! I think you convinced me to lurk more of the technique forums. Maybe I'll even start a thread some day...

While I do think that f12 is the best part of Sherdog, you also had a point that it's not really built for fan appreciation, but more for those who train. Just be a little mentally prepared that to a certain extent you migth have to chose between ignorance and elitism here.

Good luck, though. They are mostly good people, and some posters are incredible resources. Some of them just have trouble understanding why everybody doesn't train.

Im surprised that someone can get as enthused by mma as most of you seem to be, without really discussing technique at all.
It seems like you are all either obsessed with the personalities, you simply fetishise the violence or you just want to sit around talking about whos the best fighter.
The rest just want to talk about money and the industry.
Help me to understand.

Because 95% of the people in the UFC forum do not train at all, or even work out for that matter. Those who do rarely bother posting here because they have nothing in common with the rest of the people who do.
