hello
i was wodnering why the omaplata is under used in mma. its a useful move in bjj, but we hardly see ppl get submitted by it. why is that?

forget mma, i hardly see it in competitions. oh wait, forget competitions, i hardly even see it training.

In MMA OR grappling its not high-percentage. I threw away my semi-finals match in the Great Lakes BJJ championships and thus my chance to say "CACC in the house!" in a loud, obnoxious voice when I hit a rolling omoplata off my opponent's swing single. Its tough to finish man...look at Yokoi-Jackson. Yokoi practically has it.

I thought Shogun was going to get Arona with one at one point.

i thought arona was gonna get wandy at one point lol

it's always the same, whenever it goes, it's always "at one point".

I was thinking that too. I think it's just given the time it takes to setup and finish, the opponent has sufficient time to counter it effectively.

What was the odds that the fucking gogoplata would run by the omoplata in style.

On the other hand it only take one high level omoplata for 20 more fighters to use it to win fights with;)...

Oh and its not like it never have been used. For instance big nog got Enson because of an omoplata (he trasitioned into a beatiful triangle from the omplata and choked Enson out..)

But it will never be a new armbar...

I like using the omaplata as a sweep, but I rarely get the tap from it.

if u wanna see someone finishing the omoplata, look up some nino schembri clips. It is kinda tough to finish, but it IS a submission.

plain and simple its just not a high percentage move

in no gi it's a much more difficult move... with the gi it's more usefull..

Yea to be fair it's seen more in Gi than no gi.

I still see it in training quite a bit (and use it) not so much as a finish but it works nice as a sweep.

In no gi it gets so damn slippery most dudes just yank the shit outta their arm before you have a good chance to lock it in.

in no gi it's used to set up submissiosn/sweeps rather than a submission itself. It's still a very valuable tool in one's arsinal.

Check out YouTube, see if they have the video......Gil Castillo got an omoplata on Raymond Mansfield off a single leg attempt, MMA. It was sweet! the crowd went nuts.

IFC WC 10 - Warriors Challenge 10, I think?

its not the easiest for most mma fighters whose ground skill might not be at a high level.
