Why don't former fighters get into judging?

Seems like a win-win for everybody involved. The scorecards would make more sense, as they have the knowledge and experience to fairly judge a contest. They get to travel and watch the sport they love while making some money.

I think the scoring controversies would just about disappear if this were to happen.

The AC doesn't want fighters as judges. They want baby boomers who kinda know whats going on.

I think Ricardo Almeida has judged at a UFC event, hasn't he? Or am I making things up?

But yeah, I'd like to see more fighters move on to both judging and refereeing.

Because their brains are scrambled.
CTE- to a dieded death.

There might be a conflict of interest with previous opponents, friends, gyms etc.

a fighter with a certain style will probably be biased towards a fighter with that style

like BJJ guys will score BJJ better and kickboxers with kickboxing

It would have to be fighters who have shown that they have the character to be impartial. I think randy, Frank Shamrock, bas... Guys like that would be good

because ACs are corrupt as fuck and probably tied with mobs. mobs ALWAYS had a hand in anything that is related to gambling.

Needn't be former elite level fighters. Simply someone that has a better understanding of the sport than the current bunch of comedians.

Too many relationships and potential conflicts of interest and bias.

I read somewhere a lot of it has to do with bias. Previous fighters might have a hard time being objective.

This is the only drawback and probably the reason we don't see it.

The only way to try curb it would be to take on fighters that have been retired for at least a few years.

Also, they should have 5 judges, with one of the five being a former fighter.

More Definitely should. Chael Sonnen, Chuck Liddell, Chris Lytle, Mike Swick and Frank Shamrock would all be great judges.

Slowly but surely when more notable well respected fighters retire. Almeida and Ribeiro both have licenses to ref and I'm sure that will carry on to judging eventually, specially in New York where they need educated folks.

Because they don't want to get shit on for a living.
