Why doesn't UFC showcase old WEC and Strikeforce fights on TV?

WEC and Strikeforce had a ton of great fights, but I never see them on TV. You have UFC Unleashed, and you have "Best of PRIDE" for your old Pride fix. But I never see WEC or Strikeforce fights. They had some of the best shit.

That HW tournament in Strikeforce was awesome, or Diaz/Daley, etc. WEC had lots of early Aldo and Pettis fights, Faber/Pulver, etc. Would be nice to see some of these classics from time to time.

Cerrone vs. McCullough had at least 5 knockdowns lol such a mad battle.

They've been showing wec on fs1

Last month they were STILL showing old strikeforce cards on showtime.....possible showtime has tv rights for a bit longer?

What kind of advertising dollars you think Fox is going to pull with repeat events from companies not even named UFC? How does that help build their branding of the product?

That's a good point, but I feel like the quality is there. People would be interested enough to figure out that WEC and SF are Zuffa/UFC after seeing the quality of the fights, and there are timeslots that they could do worse on. I see shit like bullriding etc, sometimes late at night on channels like FS1.

The same reason the NFL does not show repeats of old football games. Reruns of sporting events belong on niche cable channels or the internet.

Ah, didn't even think about it. Yeah, Classic. Either way, FS1 and 2 air reruns of old UFC events often. Why not WEC/Strikeforce? It falls into the same category.

Fair enough. I jumped straight into thinking about airing reruns on FOX, which would be a no go. Replaying events or fights on FS1 or 2 makes sense.

I see what your'e getting at but I think in general combat sports have a much higher replay value than most ball sports.

Give it a few years they'll start having a One Night Stand PPV.

They follow this up with another one the year after and then officially bring it back to compete with the UFC.

i've been watching old wec events on fight pass.

i seriously used to take it for granted when wec was on versus network.
it was always on, and the cards always delivered.

Showtime still reruns Strikeforce cards; tonight they showed Melendez v Thompson III, even though the tv guide listed the card as Fedor v Silva. And they didn't show the main event of Melendez v Thompson III card - Cormier v Barnett. They just went to showtime previews after the post fight interviews.

So, maybe Showtime still has the cable airing rights to the Strikeforce fights.

They show old shit on FS2 and Showtime still airs Strikeforce. I don't think Fox Sports 1 would have any interest in that unless it was to showcase current guys. No sports channel trying to be relevant would just show out of context old mma.
