They do it in the UK and according to the NY Times article it virtually eliminated the Salmonella bacteria threat.

" Faced with a crisis more than a decade ago in which thousands of people were sickened from salmonella in infected eggs, farmers in Britain began vaccinating their hens against the bacteria. That simple but decisive step virtually wiped out the health threat.

But when American regulators created new egg safety rules that went into effect last month, they declared that there was not enough evidence to conclude that vaccinating hens against salmonella would prevent people from getting sick. The Food and Drug Administration decided not to mandate vaccination of hens — a precaution that would cost less than a penny per a dozen eggs
. "

Seems a no brainer , non?

Big Poultry lobbyists, imo

Brits don't wash or refrigerate their eggs.

Because it would drive up the price of blah blah and the American farmer blah blah blah the extra cost of which would get passed on to the American families we pretend to care about.

Or because lobbyists.

as someone stated already the brits dont sanitize their eggs they leave it up to the buyers. And if you read the article which was from 2010 btw... It stated that an estimated 1/2 to 2/3s of american farmers do vaccinate their hens. add to that the higher standard the eggs themselves go through in the us testing and sanitization dept. it would seem that the fda deemed it unnessicary. from what i can gather the us has lower rates of food posining than EU so if it aint broke...

Gmo chickens don't get that, their DNA has been changed , that's why its gmo. The amount of chicken wings alone , there are not enough chickens on earth for that

Because pharmaceutical costs for anti-biotics for live stock are already there, would be my guess.

Going to have to put our food on single payer if we keep this up.

Food processing practices are drastically different between countries. What's the per capita salmonella rate due to eggs--controlling for egg consumption--between the two countries?

The fix for this is as obvious as the mid day sun, yet all we hear are ways around how to really fix these types of problems.

The answer is always more crap pumped into Americas food, more antibiotics for our animals.

The real fix is to clean up these places, put strict health standards on these factory farms and hold these companies under scrutiny.

filthy living environments is where we get these diseases from. Improperly handled food, and disgusting working environments.

A factory farm chicken coop is fucking disgusting. These companies make billions, they could afford this quite easily.

Why do so many americans assume that everything is now gmo ? Selective breeding is not gmo .
