    It would hurt SA, you are correct there. The US is still the world's pre-eminent super power of the world, and we can exert extraordinary leverage against them.

    However China takes rubles as does most of the world. Russia is the number 2 weapons producer in the world.

    Russia can buy whatever it wants with its currency, it's currency is just undervalued, and getting a bad exchange rate due to sanctions.

    Even tho the US is not reliant on it, the whole world market is tied to each other. They are one of the largest producers of oil. One of the largest proven reserves.

    Saudi Arabia has been historically pro American for the most part.

    A lot of U.S. companies do business in Saudi Arabia

    They are a big buyer of arms and government purchases.

    They have a huge lobby in the US that pays companies and political representatives.
