Why doesn't JDS just go into boxing?

He clearly loves boxing. His entrance theme is Rocky and his post-fight comments tonight he said "Forget about wrestling and jiu jitsu!"

For as great as he looked tonight, I didn't see anything new from tonight. He's still going to get taken down or manhandled against the cage against a good wrestler. We also don't really know good is BJJ is and considering he never uses it, I can't imagine it being elite.

So that said, why do MMA? Why does he not just go into boxing? The boxing world needs a heavyweight boxing star and JDS has a strange charisma that I think would win people over not to mention the story of him coming over from the UFC.

Has JDS ever talked about going into boxing or any desire? I just don't see the point of being a one dimensional boxer in MMA even if he's had some success in the past. He know where his weakness is.

because mma has a much lower barrier of entry compared to boxing. To make any money in boxing you have to be very very good.

not good enough

His jiu-jitsu comment was weird, considering he's a black belt...

I'm not an expert, but i believe there's a huge gap between a MMA fighter with good boxing and a full time pro boxer.
Plus i think for your health/brain pure boxing is much worse than MMA.

You act like Junior doesn't have good tdd and would lose to every wrestler he faces. People forget he has the best, or one of the best tdd in the heavyweight division. People also need to rewatch those Cain fights because Cain was getting those take downs stuffed a lot.

big gloves in boxing changes everything.

Much the same way boxers can get outstruck by MMA fighters when they have to wear small gloves.

The people saying he would get eaten alive, etc., amuse me. They act like heavyweight boxing isn't a complete joke nowadays.

I think he'd have a hard time adjusting to the usually much smaller fighting space. He has a tendency to back up in straight lines without circling out too much, which will easily trap you against the ropes and in the corners.

And I think we all know how that goes.

He's amazingly good at stopping takedowns and getting up off the floor. All the years of training grappling would go out the window. He didn't start training boxing until he was in his 20's. He's 32 and it's not a good time to switch sports. He's an elite MMA fighter. It's a bad idea to go from a broad sport like MMA to a more specific sport like boxing because everyone else has been mastering that one element. These are some of the reasons he shouldn't switch to boxing.

Just because he loves it doesn't mean he should transition to it. The skill gap would be enormous. Better off showcasing his boxing against less skilled MMA fighters where his other skills also pay off.

Because he's one of the best fighters in the world, not one of the best boxers.
