Why doesn't Bigfoot Silva utilize the clinch more?

This is something I have always wondered about his game and hopefully there are some good thoughts and discussion in this thread. I think that he would do better if he stopped shooting for double legs and the like since he is not good at them, and instead start developing a clinch game. He has tried using it a few times (like against Hunt who countered it) but it is very undeveloped and he doesn't have a real strategy to enter them. The clinch really begins at the range where you can start fighting with your hands. Bigfoot doesn't really get his opponent to think defensively for it but if he did, he could then use methods like combinations of long-range grappling (depending on the opponent's skills) or forward strikes to enter a clinch.

Even if he gets reversed against the cage, he just has his right hand cupped behind the opponent's head and a tight overhook with his left, looking to control the head and rotate his left hip and angle his left hand to get away from the position so he can't be controlled. Then he just tries to remove his hands or body from it and side step or slip away to pretty much give up the clinch fight and go back to striking range. A guy his size can tie up with almost anybody, and all it takes is a well timed outside trip to end up in mount, where everyone knows he is a straight up terror in. An example is the Fedor-esque way he transitioned from the right hand to the body lock in the Travis Browne finish.

Even if Browne stayed awake, Bigfoot would have been in a strong clinch with his hips lower and his head in a great position for control. There aren't many people who could do much against him from that position and I think he can make a fairly significant improvement in his game if he went for it more. He could still pressure by closing the distance and simultaneously level changing with that big right hand, moving forward into the clinch whether it lands or not. I just believe he would be better off clinching -> tripping compared to shooting, and he could have some dangerous set ups to enter a clinch as well. What do you guys think?

Yeah, if he improved his clinch game / thai plum, he would be nasty. Those big mitts of his would be hard to peel off of you.

It's because he has the fight IQ of a peanut. Entirely uses brute strength/resilience to get through people.

If he was that smart, he wouldn't be.. never mind.

Watch his cain and dc fights everytime he tried too close the distance versus someone of a smaller stature he got clipped from the inside, its not always the best option.

He's a fucking Bigfoot man, you know? Bigfoot mad Bigfoot smash?
