Why does the President demonstrably lie so much, and why do we tolerate it?

The woman has been in politics longer than you’ve been alive so finding 13 minutes of position changes isn’t that difficult. I can find 4000 examples of Trump lying in just his short 3 years in the political light.

Face it, you have daddy issues and like being lied to by an elderly man who’s said he’d fuck his daughter.
That's fun when you're lying in your post saying how horrible lying is. And you think it's "daddy issues" to vote for someone who's lowering taxes and regulations and trying to get off everyone's ass, as opposed to the candidates who want to micromanage your life because you think they care about you and just want to take care of you and make all your financial decisions for you. Democrats are comfortably in the lead among broken home voters.

Why do we tolerate the Left caring more for illegal immigrants than for Americans?
Why do we tolerate the Left trying to shut down free speech?
Why do we tolerate the mass-media being so one-sided?

Politicians have to lie sometimes anyway. All of them have to. They may start off in politics with honesty but they soon find out in order to stay in the game they have to be dishonest at times. It's the nature of the beast.
The sawed off topic shotgun approach topped with everybody does it sauce

Because an education gap exists between Trump supporters and the rest of us. That and “pissin’ off libruhls” is all that matters to them.

In the 2016 election, a wide gap in presidential preferences emerged between those with and without a college degree. College graduates backed Clinton by a 9-point margin (52%-43%), while those without a college degree backed Trump 52%-44%. This is by far the widest gap in support among college graduates and non-college graduates in exit polls dating back to 1980. For example, in 2012, there was hardly any difference between the two groups: College graduates backed Obama over Romney by 50%-48%, and those without a college degree also supported Obama 51%-47%.

I would only add that as much as I hate "whataboutism", in this case it applies.
It doesn't. That's a shift away from the topic and belongs in a broader "All politicians lie" thread.

"I didn't hear you saying anything when so and so did blah blah" isn't an argument.

Because there's nobody around to stand up as a paragon of virtues.

It's hard to give the time of your day to the criticism about Trump, when it is coming from a bunch of paparazzis, con artists, comedians, and other sorts of individuals, whose credibility is next to none.

They just don't want their game to be played by somebody else, that's all they're frustrated by. That there's a bigger and better bullshitter than they are.

If you had a man around, to stand up for honesty in politics, yeah sure. But nobody is doing that.

I mean, how many times is it now that some average con-man has been made out to be the guy that "takes down Trump"? Am I supposed to take the news outlets seriously after they put up some people like Avenatti, Stormy Daniels and Michael Wolff, as their version of a truth teller? Porn stars, sleazebag lawyers and Hollywood gossip writers?

You want to cut down on Trump's bullshit? Start the process by cutting down on your own. Once you are someone that people can believe in to tell the truth, then maybe people will start paying heed to your criticisms.

I realize that one person’s rights are another person’s expenditures. I won’t even argue with this because we won’t get anywhere.

But you’re praising the guy for lowering taxes and starting a trade war. You don’t need to be an economist to know that spells disaster.

You should seek group therapy. All of this rationalize lies to justify silly policy position will taint your soul.

That applies to all sides as you said.

But most people vote for the side they believe will take the country in the direction they support.

I would not support someone like Trump over a decent, capable public servant just because he's in the party that I generally prefer.

The biggest problem is the move from the center on many key issues.

The right has in fact moved more left on some issues. Like accepting same sex marriage and most on the right accept abortion with limits.

The left has pushed very left on many issues and keeps pushing in that direction.

Both parties have moved away from the center, but the GOP has moved right to a far greater extent than Democrats have moved left. That's a big part of why the Bernie wing is so dissatisfied with the current Democratic Party (Clinton's strategy was to try to appeal to reasonable, patriotic conservatives, though there might not be much gold in that mine).

I have not praised any kind of trade war. We'll have to see how it turns out, but if what he's doing is just to lower tariffs other countries impose on the US, then it's fine, if it is just to ramp up tariffs on other countries, I'm against it.

I would only add that as much as I hate "whataboutism", in this case it applies. It can be argued that all Presidents lie, blatantly and willingly, which makes the "this isn't new" argument a valid one.

It can be asserted. I don't think it can be argued (or at least not well). This is what I was getting at. The GOP has learned to weaponize public cynicism, and the existence of an alternative-reality media structure helps in that. A lot of the pitch of the party (and Trump is just pushing the boundaries further) is based on objectively false claims (climate change is a hoax, regressive tax cuts boost growth, Democrats are pushing for open borders, etc.), but Breitbart or Fox insists that they're true, and people just think that real media is lying to help the other side.

He has no moral fiber and believes he can make up any narrative to suit his will to power.

Great post but don't know that I can quite agree with this

I posted the DW Nominate results. You can look at it more qualitatively. Compare Clinton's platform to Mondale's or Bill's, and then compare Trump's to Reagan's and Bush 41's. You can go back further, and it only strengthens the point.

Why is the country seemingly so passive about it?

We're used to being lied to more artfully, and through more surrogates - Bill Clinton and his "bimbos" and enablers.

We're used to bigger consequences for bad actions - W. Bush

We're used to better deception with our narratives - Barack Obama

The right is especially tired of this game, so the Nationalists among them found the biggest (dumbest?) bully they could find.

OP, the answers you seek are within:

The more he lies, the more we, collectively as a country lose faith in our ability to distinguish the truth, making it easier for him to lie.

It's really as simple as that.

The end goal, of course, is the end goal for any manipulator: his ability to do whatever he wants unchecked.

A salient view from a different perspective that's circumspect, nice
