Why does Miocic refuse to throw strikes when his opponents are against the cage?

I don't get it.

Every time he has success landing punches and his opponent stumbles into the cage Miocic backs up. He perfers to throw when his opponents are near the center or just away from the cage. But once they are touching the cage even if they have their hands up in a vulneralbe position, Miocic just backs up. WTF is up with that?
