Why does it seem like the same people who hated on benson for not finishing fights...

You find it 'disgusting'? As in, it 'disgusts' you? In the same way leaving salmon to ferment behind a radiator would 'disgust' you?
 
1. Which fans love Khabib and hate Benson? Some fans complain about Benson and some fans praise Khabib. Are you sure a large number hold both positions?

2. Is it not possible that people could like Khabib and hate Benson without being inconsistent? A lot of fans dislike Benson based on his public religiosity or because of his personality. How would such a fan be inconsistent by liking Khabib?

3. Why does another fan's inconsistency disgust you? Who are you that anyone owes you a consistent application of their privately held standards? Fans can like or dislike any fighters they see fit for pretty much any reasons they see fit.

Benson rubs people the wrong way. He comes off as arrogant and preachy, it makes people bristle. And it's probably not because of his lack of finishes, lots of guys don't finish and people like them plenty, such as Aldo, who hasn't had a finish in awhile. It's probably more because Bendo has won several decisions that most people feel he didn't deserve. That sort of thing really gets under people's skin. As for Khabib, he might not get finishes, but he doesn't have the personality baggage, or several gift decisions on his record. Plus he might not finish, but he tends to look impressive in manhandling people. Khabib's only knocks are some people find wrestling boring, so they'll complain about it no matter what, and he won a fight against Gleison Tibau that he had all of his offense stifled in, but, in reality, it still could have gone either way.

If you believe fans root for fighters specifically for the way they fight, I can see how it would seem conflicting for a fan to praise khabib and at the same time downplay bendo.........

But if you're over the age of twelve, you realize that fighters popularity encompasses more than the way they fight, and a lot of times fans latch onto fighters because they feel like they can relate to their personalities

Instead of crying when you see seeming duality and being disgusted by it
A helpful tool when trying to decipher fighters popularity comes down to the layover test......
