Why does everybody want Diaz vs Poirier as a 165lb title fight?

Everybody bitches and complains about interim title fights but a last minute fight for a "real" title is okay?

If a new division is made they should do what they did with Flyweight and hold a tournament to see who the real champ at the weight is.

Titles don't matter anyways, why pretend that this one is anymore important. At least it's better than going to a TUF nobody.

Seems like the alternative is Val vs Whodafook.

So at least it's better than that option.

I just want them in a 5 rd fight over the shit we are getting. No title needed. 196 this shit.

Huh? Who's that "Everybody" guy you are talking about?

Any top 15 men's fight is better than a Fivehead/Ewwbanks M.E

Because the fight would be amazing and the winner will probably face GSP or Conor next.

Now we don't even know if we are getting the 3 rounder and lost the valentina vs JJ fight.

I've been beating the drum for 165/175 for years so I just want to see it finally happen. And it will eventually. I remember when 9/10 fans were against the idea, and now it's more 6 or 7/10 For the new weight classes. And only more & more will come around to the idea as their favorite fighters like Conor ask for it.

I think Ferguson vs Poirier would've made more sense for the 165 belt since both deserve a title shot.

At this point, I just want it because there are actually people out there stupid enough not to want it.

We like belts. Honestly though, it ups the stakes and guarantees it as a 5 round fight. You gotta start the division somewhere and there have been worse inaugural weight class championship fights than Diaz/Poirier. I say why not?

The fact that this isn't going to be a 5 round fight is pretty egregious.

It's equally ridiculous that two veterans, both perennially ranked, get matched up in a pivotal bout - both guys famous for being entertaining - and its taking second billing to a meaningless fight.

Mix in the fact that 165lbs makes a lot of sense, and the timing lines up since Khabib x Conor are fighting and Tony should be next, and you can see an idea forming.

Because 165 would be a great division there’s plenty of 155ers who struggle with the weight but are too small for 170, both 155 and 170 are stacked too so the division would be insta deep, Dustin has also looked great lately a title shot is deserved, Nate just lucks out.

We want a 5-round fight for Nate vs. Dustin. Only main events and title fights are 5-rd fights, though, so make it one of them.

Nobody wants to watch that WMMA 5rd squash match for the main event, no one...not even their parents.

The 5 round part is what most fans want to see between these two.

We need more weight classes to cut back on extreme weight cutting. Do either fighters deserve a belt, maybe not, but it wont be long before a real contender challenges for the belt.

I think people just want to see Nate fight.

And the only time he fights these days is either against Conor or for a title.

What I would rather see is bumping both Diaz/Poirier to a 5 round fight and Rockhold/Weidman to a 5 rounder.
They may not be "main event worthy" but they sure are fun fights that deserve to be 5 round fights. It would still be a great card.

Not me, 165 makes no sense when you got 170 right there. This isn't boxing
