Why do we have celeb boxing matches but not MMA matches?

Just saw Aaron Carter vs Lamar Odom boxing match announced.

I mean wouldn’t a MMA fight between celebs be much more fun to watch?

I think it comes down to sloppy boxing fights being more watchable than sloppy mma fights. It's too tough to get novices to a watchable level for an MMA audience in let's say 3-6 months, which is all the time these celebrities would be willing to train for.

Because boxing is easier to learn (but hard to be really good), and MMA is just difficult for any beginners. Also boxing is a joke these days

Here's a guy with no combat training skills learning MMA and making his fight debut in 4 months (fight is timestamped). Even though he trained religiously, his striking made Ben Askren look like Petrosyan, and he got choked out promptly. Lamar Odom and Aaron Carter don't have the dedication to train intensely for 4 months. They have crack to smoke

You're going to see a lot of out of work actors and the all important stage dancers doing some desperate BS soon

TS has never seen two gay crocodiles wrestle and it shows.

Because that's exactly how untrained fighters look once it ends up on the ground. Really want 5 minutes of hugging and grunting?

Boris "I'm Out" Johnson vs Emmanuel "The Only Truth" Macron. 2 rounds, 12oz gloves.
I got Macron touchin Boris with teh jab and clocking a 20-18 comfortably.
Later, Johnson will say he won by TKO.

What gives you this impression? Just purely based on imagination I would have guessed a sloppy MMA fight would be more fun to watch because all kinds of crazy stuff can happen.

I suppose there isn't enough time for them to train all aspects of MMA.

We all saw Kimbo vs Dada 5000, I imagine most fights would end up looking similar to that.

In a sloppy boxing fight they'll still be swinging on each other like idiots so it's poor technique but fun.

In a sloppy mma fight, complete white belt novices rolling around with each other is unwatchable.

I guess there are no weight classes in celebrity boxing.

Won't Odom outweigh that little shit by like 150 pounds?

Other than what above posts have mentioned, Celeb Boxing doesn't have to be under particular org so it wouldn't really blemish the meritocracy aspect of the sport unlike if the UFC sanctioned such celebrity fight under their banner.

What? The UFC isn’t a sanctioning body.

Because most celebs don't know how to do one martial art competently.

So what would the sense be of having them try and do three or four major martial arts competently?

Celeb MMA would probably just devolve to shitty kickboxing anyway.
