Why do some people act like MMA is a team sport?

I've never trained MMA, so maybe I don't understand. I've only played high school football and starting next year college ball as well. But to me like I don't understand why MMA fignhters act like its a team sport sometimes and won't fight guys in their own gym for titles and stuff. Like football and basketball are team sports, you have to rely on the other person in order to win. A team wins the Super Bowl, not an individual. An individual wins a UFC title, not a team. The whole new TUF when I watch it and ATT fighters get pissed when they lose I don't understand. Like I wouldn't care as long as I won my fight? Maybe I'm selfish but I would not care what my team did as long as j won, I would want my gym to win fights but at the end of the day I wouldn't be mad as long as I won mine. Now in football of course you get pissed when your team losses because it takes all 11 guys to win or lose and it sucks to lose. Somebody who trains MMA help me understand this or maybe yall agree with me

Why so many MMA fans care so much how much MMA fighters make? That's what I don't get. I mean seriously, just because what MMA fighters makes doesn't mean it's how much you make. So stop worrying about how much fighters makes. IT DOESN'T AFFECT YOUR FRICKING LIFE! DUH!

? Wrong thread?

The relationship between a fighter and his team/camp is symbiotic.

The success of one usually feeds into the other, which feeds back into the other, etc...

Generally speaking, the better your team and camp, the better you will perform as an individual all else being equal.

That's something to consider, even if you are just making a cold cost-benefit analysis.

Its like Nascar, there is a big team supporting one driver (and the car). The fighter is the driver/car.

MMA has team elements to it, but it consists of one-on-one competition. Any fighter is better with a good team behind them, and when you train and grow with people, you tend to build relationships. If the people in those relationships suffer hardship, be it a loss or some personal tragedy, you empathize. When/if you fight your own teammate, you're the one potentially taking something away from them. It can be a complex dynamic.

When you fight, you usually represent more than just yourself. You represent everyone who has invested in you, and wants to see you succeed.

And Bam. You just made a fighter pay thread TS. I hope you're fuckin' happy.

A lot of human beings don't like hurting their friend physically and career wise.

No, it's not TS's fault, I told Ken I'd get him his bud & the money from Jones, but he got pissed, he went off the rails now I'm looking for an alley in the crap holes outside of L.A. for a bummy looking white guy covered in pissy newspapers, donuts ranging from 7/8ths to 1/2 eaten, and syringes...ugh it's every two weekends with this guy!

On topic, Krouget & Nelson have it right.

Anytime a partner of mine is fighting, I get very excited for them. I only really show it while sparring & rolling with them, they get real happy because I'm an excellent guy to have on your team, anytime they get injured, I feel for them, anytime the coaches have a fight coming up, same thing, and anybody that beats my coaches I'm intrigued by yet feel some animosity, but nothing I'm sure would last if I met them. It's basic human relationships, you work with &/or like people, it's natural to support them.

So TC how good do you think a fighter would get training by himself all day? No instructors, no sifu's, no training partners or nothing.

bro I train UFC at a UFC training centre. I made it clear to all those guys my fights were one on one bro, I dont make friends with NOBODY I train with.

i wouldn't fight one of my training partners unless it was title fight or a number 1 contenders fight

i don't want to risk slowing down his career for just a normal match

if you may have to fight a team mate you aren't really going to help them get better and they wont help you get better

I dont get it either i would crush any friend or teammate in my way....i always had respect for guys like Jones and chuck lol tito and evans but we're friends lollol
