Why do repeated cleans leave me sucking wind?

I do the following: a power clean-2 front squats-a push press, witth 60 kg, 10 sets of 4. After each set, I suck wind big time, and it is mainly because of the power clean (I verified). I wonder why this is the case. Is it because it is a fast, anaerobic lift where a lot of mechanical work is performed (moving 60 kg from floor to shoulder height) IN A SHORT TIME and the body is left with a large oxygen deficit?

Short answer, yes.

Long answer, it's extremely taxing.

You take the bar from the floor to overhead. That's a long range compared to a bicep curl or even a deadlift.

do you always do clean, front, press? or do you also do these individually.

I ask only because you may be limiting yourself by your weakest link (lowest weight of the three).

I do them in succession on purpose. Weakest link is the press, but it is the clean that is the most taxing.

I imagine your heart has to pump a lot more for the increased power output.

Also, magicman, your sig is a bit out of date.

I assume you made that before he got his head kicked in by Gonzaga on his second fight, but I guess you could mean that he gets the title in his third fight after Gonzaga.

Next fight is his tune up, then he'll fight for title contention, and finally his 3rd fight will be for the HW belt. I made it after he got KOed, but I'm not going to turn my back on my favorite fighter after one loss.

its a sign of bad cardio. incorporate more running/stair climbing into ure work outs. im pretty sure bally has one of those stair-climbing thingies, i hate them but i force myself to go 10 minutes on them

All muscles in the body contract hard when you perform this complex. This is a lot of cells asking for new oxygen after a while. You will improve your anaerobic cardio when doing this regulary. The clean is the one taxing the most muscles out of the three lifts you perform.

synthol.

edit: was this really that hard of a fucking question?

Hey guys, can anyone tell me why I'm so tired after I push a car uphill compared to downhill? Kthx!

Not the same. It is anaerobic not aerobic effort, and it leads to lactic acid buildup. So does bad cardio have anything to do with the way I respond to it?

It's not aerobic? That's odd, it leaves you sucking wind does it not? Think about it man.

I'm no scientist, but my way of thinking is that it goes along with the "drill it and do X" mentality.

Burpees have the same effect on me (I'm breathing through my asshole by rep 10), but if I do them enough, I will eventually make it to 15 or 20 reps before I go into cardiac arrest.
