He's repeatedly said he will definitely move up "eventually" which is what you put in your title...

Pretty sure he has said it within the last several months and definitely since 2012. Again, he is talking about down the road, not "imminently." But your title doesn't say "imminently," it says "eventually." Was that not what you intended?

I think it's mainly because people keep bringing up that Jones will be the MMA GOAT, which is something he will never become if he stays in a weight class where almost everyone is smaller than him by a wide margin. Anderson moved up from WW to MW and dabbled at LHW. As long as Jones is kept being mentioned in the same sentence as Anderson people will expect Jones to deliver at HW. For the record, I don't.

Why do people keep making threads about Jones moving up to HW or not?

He's a big LHW. As you age, it becomes more difficult to cut weight.

Jones is a lanky guy who doesn't cut very much weight after a camp. He was under 220 eight weeks out from UFC 172.

Guys with similar body types like Anderson and Diabate had no trouble making weight into their late 30s. There's absolutely no evidence that Jones is about to undergo some massive physical transformation. He's actually making weight easier than he did a couple of years ago.

And LOL @ the people who incessantly talk about how he's going to look like his NFL lineman brothers ignoring the fact that the three of them have completely different body types.

His natural weight is average for a 205er.

People want to see him lose is the right answer. Now he has to eventually go or else sherdog will say jones "ducked hw"

Because his haters need something to attribute his amazing success too, and "waaaaahhhh he's too big for his weight class" is a time-honored excuse. I've heard it used on Anderson and GSP as well.

Agreed, but then his frame is pretty gangly for a 205er. He could easily bulk a bit.

If anything Jones has shown greater endurance and gas tank in recent fights, which puts the lie to all of this blather that he makes unsustainable weight cuts that separate him from the rest of the LHW division.

If he can make the cut and go 5 championship rounds with the best in the world, he is in his natural class and further debate is just coffee shop banter .

...and he could put on a bunch of muscle and become a worse fighter like Mir did a few years back when everybody thought that HW was going to be dominated by 300 lb. monster who cut to 265 because Lesnar had the belt.

Jones is having a lot of success right where he is his current shape. There's no reason to change anything up.

His reach certainly is closer to that of an average HW than it is to the one of an average LHW. It's kind of freakish. Anderson and GSP don't hold that type of physical advantage over their respective divisions.

That being said, as long as he makes weight he's a LHW and having freakish reach doesn't automatically mean you can utilize it.

tbh if Jones should move to HW, Gus should too... that'd be very interesting
