I was listening to Leonardo tonight and it just made me cringe. The guy is a good actor, but fuck, you do NOT understand the mechanisms that change global climate! And as such, don't run your mouth about it! It reminds me of Rosie o'donnell talking about the gulf war when in all reality she probably couldn't find Iraq on a map or name the two main factions in said country. The sad part is that these stars are more often than not sending out miss information that pretty much all young people will take as fact.

He was acknowledging climate change and saying we need to do something about it.

I knew he would do that too. He always talks about global warming. I wasn't annoyed by it though.

What makes me cringe is ignorant religious right wingers that deny the existence of something that virtually every scientist in the world has confirmed.

Not Leonardo mentioning it and throwing shade at the multitude of Glenn Beck following science-deniers. That, I find awesome.

Why are you watching that shit ts?

When you watch it you add a bit more relevancy to that frivolous dress up party.

What good reason is there to be good stewards of the Earth when Jesus Christ will be coming back within our lifetimes to fix everything?

Almost sixty percent of white Christian evangelicals (aka the American religious right) believes that the Rapture will happen in their lifetime.

That's SIX IN TEN of these people who believe that although it's been 2000 years since the time of Christ, their lifetimes are somehow special. More than half actually believe Jesus will return before 2050.

You want to know why so many climate change deniers are right wing religious nuts? (And make no mistake, these are religious nuts by definition.). Because there is no need to be concerned about the environment even if something were wrong with it.

Why would you fix a car with multiple leaks, broken AC, flat tires and smoke coming from under the hood when all you gotta do is make it a few more feet and Daddy is going to buy you a new one?

There's a reason that the most secular countries in the world (Japan, France, South Korea, Germany, Sweden, etc) are places where the reality of climate change isn't really questioned. BTW, in Pew the latest Pew survey, over NINETY percent of American evangelicals consider secularism a threat, while just over half of those in the global survey co nsider Islam a threat. Mind boggling.

    Agreed.

The only thing cringe-worthy here is the willful ignorance of the religious right.

An interesting thread with interesting responses. Personally I don't have a strong opinion on global warming and there's a reason for that:

    Only those who:

    a) have the academic background,
    b) have access to all the relevant data, and
    c) have the proper resources to interpret that data. . .

Really can have an expert opinion. That doesn't mean you aren't entitled to a general sort of layman's idea about what's going on but don't overstep the limits of your expertise.
