Because if he comes out & boxes crap due to injury- he looks a fool & loses all the "cool cred" his status as a boxer with a famous name brings to the British public, and ruins his chances of being paid big $$$ just to go on reality shows where he is paid to try and shag hot women.

So he'd be risking his "main" gig as a b grade reality show celebrity/influencer (3.8 million instagram followers is enough to earn very well from) PLUS the bigger boxing paydays he'd get if he beats Jake Paul & people in the USA actually know who the fark he is and might watch his next few fights.

Longer term, he makes way more money if he delays the fight and then wins it, than if he fights injured & embarrasses himself. He's not Woodley who had zero earning options so would say/do anything for those fights.

It's a bit early for the crash and burn option for him. Far better to beat Paul when he's fit, string that out into some more TV/reality spots to try to cement a media career and take a few more flashy fights.

If he loses to Paul he's a joke. If he beats Paul, he might even catch some of Pauls audience- they play in vaguely similar markets on SM.

Makes sense. A broken rib is a pretty debilitating injury. I had just badly bruised ribs once and that was terrible. Couldn't sleep properly for weeks and it hurt to breathe. No way could you box with that.

I took some pretty vicious body shots sparring a pro. My ribs weren’t broken but I was in pain for weeks. I remember it being absolutely terrible lol. And that’s not even broken

If they are faking it, he went through some length to do so with the documentation and what not. Dont see much of a reason to fake it though, then again the Fury’s seem to be entirely full of shit so who knows.

Tommy likely gonna get the rematch anyways. Jake aint gonna box Mas or Nate, and he is afraid to box Andy and Vitor. Tommy is really the only option and the only "pro boxer" with a name, pro experience, a similar record, the name that can offer a decent step up without being over whelming. His "excuse" was the most legit excuse you can have, and he showed the x-ray too - poor guy's rib was literally snapped clean in two. Remember how Aldo just bruised his rib and pulled? Rib injuries are the worst, nm a rib snapped clear in half, infected and then pneumonia.

It was smart to pull. Plus, Tommy said he makes like half a milly from other boxing events and has other options, like modeling.....oh yah, and his brother a multi-multi millionaire. He will be fine, even if the fight does not happen (which it will tho).
