Why didn't the sequel trilogy focus on Luke?

Because of the new generation and the amount of time that passed. In some ways it makes sense because it's not like 4-6 really concentrate on Obi Wan, Yoda, or I guess Jimmy Smits. It's just that the new films were so terribly plotted that people didn't get behind the new characters.

Because Kathleen Kennedy is a walking talking turd.

they didn't believe Mark Hamil could carry the franchise any longer as the lead. It's as simple as that.

It was because Kathleen Kennedy is a feminist cunt, and dictated her Star Wars movies would be filled with social agenda narratives and characters - Effectively making all new movies in the greatest SciFi series ever to be propaganda.

Oh, you wanted Luke, Han, and Leia to be up-front and center? Fuck you.

You wanted meaningful and epic Star Wars movies? Fuck you.

You will pay for a ticket to sit in a theater and have Mickey Mouse's dick shoved down your throat.

Cause it's this new era. New gen doesn't wanna see an older guy, no matter how strong in the force he is, take up a majority of the screen time.

So they littered it with fresh faces, corny dialogue and merchandise ops. The kids will love it.

They completely ruined any post ROTJ books or material which was actually great, and replaced it with a sloppy, copy n paste project with little originality. Hollywood at its finest.
Well yeah a movie with Mark Hammill playing 70 year old Luke would have been awful. They coulda brought on younger actors and focused on a 25-30 year old Luke, a 25-30 year old Leia, and a 35-40 year old Han.

I mean they just brought down the entire fucking Empire.. what happens over the next 15 years?

Because the goal was to dispense with straight white males in favor of social justice (aka anything that isn't a straight white male).

Dude what are you talking about? Bearded Hamill is legit. Hamill is on top of his game. So is Ford. Age was not the issue, Carrie Fisher (RIP) notwithstanding.

Well the Carrie Fisher issue tells you why you wouldn't want to bank on a 5 year, multi-billion dollar movie trilogy project focused on a group of old people.

That aside, it was fun to see them in small doses. Making a 3 movie story focused around geriatrics would get really stale though.

They arent geriatric dude. They werent when force awakens came out.

They both could have easily passed for people in their 50's. It's like Expendables. A little hair die and make up.

It's a trilogy, not 1 movie though. One of the actors literally died during the filming and Luke looks like this:

What would have happened to the trilogy plans if, hypothetically, $750 million already invested and spent while halfway through filming the second movie, Leia still died, Hammill had a stroke while filming the first film, and Ford started getting dementia and couldn't remember his lines or how to read? Very possible, that's why it didn't happen.

It should have been done back in like 1995-2000 if you wanted to keep the original actors. Instead they did the gay prequels

Hamill does not look that bad dude. A little makeup and movie magic and hed look fine.

But your right, they should have done the sequels when they did the prequels.

In my view the sequel trilogy was always supposed to continue Luke's arc. Whether or not we see him succumb to the dark side and then redeem himself or what have you, it was supposed to be about Luke. I think that's why from the beginning I had a bad taste in my mouth about these new movies - they just focus on the wrong things.

Was it because Mark Hamill didn't want to be involved that much or because Disney and the story runners didn't want to go that route?
I think his role in the trilogy should have been more significant, but I also think it was important to create new main characters. It's a shame they did such a garbage job with all of it.

Cos the films are primarily marketed to kids.

And, generally speaking, kids dont wanna focus on an old grandpa, they wanna focus on other young people ie Rey, Kylo, Finn etc.

Why do you think the og trilogy focused on the young people like Luke and Leia, and not old Obi Wan etc

Han was already like 40 in the original movies and hes everyones favorite character.

Different time, and he was still young looking then compared to Mark Hamill now.

Commercialism is aimed primarily at young folk, these days.

Hence, why the focus was on younger generation, and the old characters were utilised to hook in the adult nerds who loved the original.

Hedging their bets.

Would it though?

It's a movie about Jedis and sith. The best of whom were old, wise dudes who could still brandish a lightsaber with the best of em. Palpatine...old, qui gon...old, windu....old, Dooku...old, Yoda...CGI old, obi wan....old, eventually. Not all movies have to cater to the youth, but it is Disney, and they do have to sell their merch .
