Why didn't Ronda get this reaction she beat Zingano?

One punch ko's are obviously rare in wmma.

Except it didn't look like Bethe was really out. She was out of the fight yes, but not unconscious.

Pretty sure Big John would not have stopped the fight as quickly if Ronda was the one who went down from a punch like that.

People thought Bethe could ko Rousey. ROusey fucked her up and face planted her.

Nobody thought that. One of the main knocks on Bethe was her lack of punching power and she really doesn't have a style of striking that would lead to KOs even if she had power.

In a fantasy world where Bethe could somehow win it would either have been by decision or some kind of TKO cut stoppage or just an accumulation of damage.

Bethe was in lalaland, come on.

Cat Zingano, still the #2 female BW in the world imo was a HUGE win for Ronda. And she beat her faster than Bethe.

Compared to the worlds reaction after the Bethe fight, it's like no one cared after the Zingano fight. Why is that? Rogan almost sounded disapointed/uninterested when she subbed Cat. But when she koed Bethe, he genuenly went crazy. According to the aftermath, Bethe is Rondas biggest win. Weird right?

joes reaction after the bethe fight seemed like such bullshit. bethe was a complete mismatch for ronda, and its kinda scary that they would put someone so nooby in with such a dominant champ. dana is bound to have given him a handsome bonus to make it seem like something relevant just happened

It was a big deal in the mainstream, especially for the UFC. It's a snowball effect. Now this one is an even bigger deal. That fight helped the hype and anticipation for this one which is even bigger to the outsiders.

LOL. That's all I can take for tonight. Have a good one folks.

The Zingano fight MADE her famous.

It was so unexpected, it took a while for it to filter out to the masses, but eventually gazillions of people saw the gifs or vines and made a note of it.

This time people were prepared, there was anticipation. Everyone was watching live (or nearly so), so as soon as the KO happened, there was an immediate surge in coverage that was rather different than the slow filtering out of the Zingano fight.

But make no mistake, it was the Zingano fight that won the masses over and made them pay attention in the first place.

You can talk about the Wrestlemania or the Espys or other stuff, and sure those helped, but those only happened because the Zingano fight was so spectacular in the first place.

Why? A few reasons
1. Because mass celebrities like Kobe and Lebron discovered her recently and were tweeting about her. This incited the hoards of morons that hero worship basketball players, hip-hop, pop and tabloid culture....those that occupy the lower-avg IQ range of 75-100.

2. Mayweather destroyed millions of person's hero in Pacman after whooping him in the highest grossing spectacle of all time. After this globally seen whooping, people were hungry for a new hero to dethrone, or atleast think they could dethrone, the antihero known as Money May. Conor was wise to this void and offered to fight May. However, the legions of morons, fueled by the likes of Clay Travis, think a fight with RR is not only possible, but that RR is a more dangerous threat to MM than CM. They also find poetic justice and an extra dose of emasculation claiming that a woman could beat MM, especially since the leftist media jumped on his nuts for domestic abuse.

3. As someone already mentioned, the false narrative has spun that Correia was claiming that Rousey had a genetic predisposition to suicide, since Rousey father killed himself, and she was suggesting that after she beat Rousey, Rousey would be genetically predisposed to taking her life. Rousey has a hard on for "people talking shit about her family" (See the Tate fight), when that never really has actually happened to the extent that it has been suggested. Millions of morons have what I call "movie brain" where they live thru others, have uberly dramatic grandeur and just wait for the day when someone talks horrible shit about their families/loved ones so that they can lay an epic honor beating on their ass. Dana was wise to the mentality of these idiots and in effort to hype the fight, suggested that Correia read Rousey's biography and was insulting a sacred code of conduct, fueling the fire, even though it is an unproven/false narrative but great for inciting the rage boners of morons.

Rousey is a safe bet to quench said boner of rage since she is 100% paired against cans of epic proportions (hence why they got mcmann in there quickly, before she had time to learn standup/develop her game). UFC is magic because they make the morons and uneducated folk believe that Rousey is fighting legit competition. Bethe was an artfully developed can, in the sense that she had a fluffed up undefeated record and was purposefully paired against the 4 horsewoman, even though she was mostly dominated by these local level talents that went 1-7 in UFC.

All in all, people will just read the headlines and jump on trendy topics and the UFC know this. The UFC know that as long as they say "Rousey is fighting legit fighters", the mentally lazy hoards of people will not actually look any deeper. UFC is a stronger monolopy than it ever has been and blacklists those that speak the truth, truth which is contradictory to their agenda....thus, no major media outlets are calling Rousey the untested, artificially created commodity that she is that is afraid to take on the only legitimate task that exists for her: fighting Cyborg.

We are essentially witnessing Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano embodied in one person here, and this whole phenomenon makes it no secret why when Kimbo and Gina were paired on the same card, it was the highest viewed card in history...both were untested, later exposed, but the greater population did not care and just wanted to be fooled and entertained for the night. Fantastical calls of "Kimbo could beat Fedor" drowned out more logical assessments until Petruzelli silenced the all w/ truth. UFC learned a valuable lesson from Seth Petruzelli and will not make the same mistake that Elite XC did: they will not let their cash cow lose and the Cyborg fight will NEVER EVER EVER happen.

When you faceplant like that you're out cold

Ronda got a huge response from beating Zingano. Every fight is getting bigger and more mainstream attention.

I think the 3rd fight with Miesha will easily do over 1 million buys since there wasn't a lot of mainstream attention for Ronda for the first two. It will be a new fight for a lot of people that weren't watching back then. It'll be interesting to see if you have the guys turn on Ronda or some of the women rooting for Miesha come fight time. Ronda was a really catty and unlikable in the build up to that fight.

People didn't watch for a competitive match, it didn't matter who it was or what their story was. They watched to see Ronda do what Ronda does.

The Zingano fight MADE her famous.

This right here, combined with it being a KO and payback for the trash talk.

That is not a throw.
That is totally a throw, it's a kosoto-gari with an assist. Ronda went down largely on her side due to Meisha's action. In judo we'd score that one a yuko, under the old rules (currently she'd be DQ'd for the hand on the leg). What do you call it if not a throw?

Maybe because Zingano kind of lost the fight on her own with that stupid flying knee that was not even setup with anything and which isn't even the way that Zingano normally fights.

That was a ridiculously poor percentage move against Ronda because unless you land it perfectly you're getting taken down and everyone knows what happens after that.

I don't know if this is the reason but if someone had told me that Zingano was going to start with that move I would have guessed that she was going to lose in under 30 seconds.

You wouldnt have said anything about that flying knee had the fight not ended in a amazing submission a few seconds later. It was a brutal and highly technical 14 second performance from Ronda and you and everyone else should learn to appreciate that.

Popularity grows with time. Nothing weird.

This.

Rousey and her team have been promoting Ronda like demons since they started in the UFC. It just takes time to reach very high levels of consumer awareness when you're starting point is a niche sport like MMA.

Rousey and Co. are basically running a master class in self-promotion. Combine it with her attention getting victories and they've basically been building a juggernaut for the last 2 years.

Rousey and Co. may be the best promoters that MMA has ever seen.
