Why didnt Anderson face the reigning LHW champ when he was the MW champ?

Anderson Silva against Shogun, Machida or Rampage from the 2005-2011 era remains an unsolved mystery. One of the great hypothetical what if’s in MMA history.

Because the UFC wasn't so desperate for star power back then that they didn't try to force "superfights" to happen with no build up just to try to crack 400K views. Also, fans weren't conditioned to believe that a champion has to prove himself by fighting outside of their natural weight class. You know, better times than now.

The whole "champ champ" thing didn't exist back then except for BJ Penn. They wouldn't let him keep the MW belt and fight for the LHW belt without dropping it.

Most reasons are pointed out already

Added problem would have been holding on to that title. People forget Anderson fought at ww for a whilethere.

Fighting handpicked opponents in Silva and Irvin is fine. But win that LHW title now you have to defend it against wrestlers with a massive weight advantage. Rashad, Rampage, Ortiz. Good luck with that.

Still didn't answer my question lol rekt
tbh iirc gsp said he would need time to prepare his body and acclimate to middleweight.

that was something the ufc wasnt wanting any off when trying to force him to fight anderson.

when he had time to prepare and get his body ready for middleweight he became champ and beat the guy that beat anderson.

funny that, hey?

this is the funniest thing that alot of people disregard.

anderson already spent some time of his career at welterweight. he could get there and face gsp there. he didnt want to.

This thread title should be changed to Dildos calls out andyhugmercury on GSP disrespect..

Hahaha this is heating up

I have never understood why the fearless Anderson Silva never jumped up to light heavyweight and faced the champ.

He sure faced stiff competition in light heavyweight being none other than James Irvin

and the two TUF season one finalists... How impressive is that!!??

Why did Anderson not want to face legit competition at light heavyweight? Was he scared he would get absolutely starched? If any of you are gonna say 'wahh wahh Forrest just lost the championship in his last fight!' just dont. Forrest is not a good fighter. He pulled 2 miracles out of his ass during his career, one the first shogun fight, two the rampage fight. When Forrest wasnt pulling miracles out of his ass he was running from the cage crying that he lost.

So what gives? Why did Anderson never challenge real competition at light heavyweight?

would you ever say forrest was really the upper echelon of the light heavyweight division when he was there?

he was a decent jack of all trades but master of none. heart prevailed more than talent and skill.

he wasnt good.
An all time great? No. But he was pretty good when the LHW division was absolutely stacked with killers (Shogun, Machida,Rampage,Rashad) and fought well up until round 3 of the Rashad fight. I understand people give him shit for how bad he looked against Anderson but he was steadily declining by that point (getting KO'd in sparring) if he were in his prime vs the LHW today I'd say he beats everyone except Jones and maybe Gus

He was GOAT status attracting celebrities at MW, getting paid. Keep the belt, keep the rep, keep the money coming in. Why risk his career getting KO'd or exposed as less than superhuman by a bigger opponent? Forrest and Irvin were risk-free. Why hasn't Jon gone up? Same reason... for almost every champ in UFC history.

He didn’t want to mess with Lyoto’s chances for the LHW title.

Anderson could have easily taken the LHW title (KOd former champ Forrest) anytime he wanted until Jones became champ.
Still laugh at how shogun called out Silva and everyone called him a duck.

Only for shogun to be on the side of the most one sided beated from a challenger in mma history

No money fights

GSP should've fought Anderson but pussied out
