IMHO he was winning the fight

Then he starts to trade... Why?

Did he gas?

Maybe I´m too high and didin´t notice something?

Because he was on route to losing the last 3 rds, with no prospect of winning because of him gassing and his eye closing up.
 
Maybe he couldnt see.
 
Was probably worried about the fight getting stopped because of his eye OR he wanted to get Volkov to throw big and overextend so he could take him down again.
 
5 rounds is a long time... wanted to mix it up a bit. And gassed.

He was probably more hurt than he was letting on and wanted to try and finish the fight. His eye was really swollen.
 
He gassed himself out trying to pass Volkovs guard and used a lot of energy on the ground. On the feet Volkov had so much reach he kept peppering him until Werdum got super gassed and desperate and started to look for a homerun and got floored and KTFOd.
 
I'm just happy to see the new guard starting to take it to the old guard in the HW division. It could look completely different over the next 2 years or so.
 
He knew the fight was on the verge of being stopped due to his eye swollen shut and tried to cash in all his chips , as you clearly saw it backfired rather badly.

It was about to be 2-2 going into the last round.

Seemed werdum had nothing left In the tank though and went out on his shield.

Werdum had nothing left after Volkov got up in the later half of the first round, Volkov knew it and just took his time knowing it was a 5 rounder. I hope Werdum retires, he's had a great career and I don't want to watch him stick around as a gate keeper for a couple more years.
 
Takedowns stopped working, sweeps stopped working. Volk's stand up was superior and he had no answers. I think he panicked a little and tried to make something happen on the feet by wading in and throwing bombs. Werdum does weird shit when he's in tough.
 
His eye was closing badly and it was possible that they were going to stop the fight because of that. Probably figured that he would at least go out swinging.
