Why did UFC deviate from original UFC on FOX model?

I recall Cain vs. JDS, UFC’s first event on FOX, being modeled after HW boxing fights from the old days, in the sense that you’d get one, or two big fights on a Friday or Saturday night, and everyone would anticipate this huge, non-PPV event.

I don’t recall Dana stating it would be strictly HWs getting showcased, but it seems like UFC on FOX cards have lost a lot of that luster. Many cards are good, with stellar names, but it’s lacking that vibe that was so highly touted with the first ever UFC on FOX.

Your thoughts?

it's all because Wmma

Ya I agree. I thought it was different and interesting. It would have been a cool format. However, I wonder if because of the quickness of that bout they had to pump the breaks on it? Add more fights Incase the main event is over so quickly?

true in many ways. Now it like oh let just add this shittier tier event. I agree they should stacks PPV cards but also reserve Fox events to have big fights like 1 or 2.

I don't know what you're getting on about with the showcase of only one or two fights - I personally found that idiotic. Although, perhaps placing the first 8 on FS1 and then merely the two main event fights in Fox could carry some merit - just so long as they're all televised somewhere other than UFC fight pass, which I found to be an unbearably inept service.

Literally this is the first time I've read someone claim that the first Fox show was a success that should be emulated.

Some of the main and co-mains on a few ppvs could've been nice fights for Fox. They then would be scrapping around even more to find fights for the ppvs. Too many cards without enough legit headliners.

They don't have the talent to be able to do that. And they've completely fucked themselves by spending so much time on garbage Women's MMA. Like for fucks sake, 4 women's divisions in the UFC now? It's fucking retarded watching a bunch of talentless women roll around presented to us as a legit competition.

UFC needs fixing fast and they need to ban all women. And ban the flyweight manlet division as well.

UFC gets paid the same either way so why not save the bigger fights for ppv?

Your post made me think of something

This first Fox card was not part of the UFC/Fox deal.
It was 2 month prior & negotiated separately.
So Fox negotiated & paid to have a PPV level fight.

They even paid for Brock to be a guest analyst

Subjective

They've had plenty of unique title fights...

Only difference is they have more than 1 fight... They even said one fight wasn't the norm

As long as they keep Dern, I’m cool.

Fox 5 cards have become comical -----lucky now if 1 of 5 cards are somewhat stacked.....and I'm being generous in that.

I said that?

Well, you talked about its "vibe" glowingly and said what followed lacked its "luster." You asked why the UFC deviated from its model. Sounds like you thought it worthy of emulation — even though to most people it proved why being highly anticipated can backfire, and putting all your focus on one fight runs the great risk of a feeling of anticlimax when it's over before you can strip a chicken wing.
