OSP is the most dangerous when he's standing. And we've seen fighters dominate their opponent for most of 5 rounds and then get KO'd by a last second punch even though their opponent was fired and gassed. So, if Jones was looking to safely secure a victory, the best thing for him to do would be to keep OSP on the ground and either do enough GnP to keep the ref from standing it up or finishing OSP with GnP or a submission.
Jones said physically he felt great but mentally that he was sucking and couldn't pull the trigger.
Also, Jones needed a win for his chance at DC's belt and for his confidence.
So, why did Jones let OSP up in the 5th round?
Especially when he dominated him on the ground at the end of the 4th round?
It would have been the safer route to secure a victory for Jon, especially since he said he wasn't performing well.
