Can't you just keep fighting until you have no fights left on the contract?

There's apparently a "champion's clause."

The restrictive nature of UFC's (and WWE's) "independent contractor" agreements is going to be a big story in a few years.

If, at the expiration of the Term, Fighter is then a UFC champion, the Term shall automatically be extended for the period commencing on the Termination Date and ending on the later of (i) one (1) year from the Termination Date; or (ii) the date on which Fighter has participated in three (3) bouts promoted by ZUFFA, regardless of weight class or title, following the Termination Date ("Extension Term"). Any reference to the Term herein shall be deemed to include a reference to the Extension Term, where applicable.

So they can fight out their contract but if they're champ they have to fight 3 more times or a year.

It was a big story years ago...this is nothing new. It was a big story when Couture was trying to get a fight with Fedor.

Instant tap when the fight starts, you're no longer champ and almost free to go

I think that the clause automatically extends the contract when you're still the champ.

It'd never happen, but i'd LOVE for someone to try to pull this on the UFC. Just say they're sick of the bullshit and the way the company runs things.

until there is an Ali Act by government intervention,
nothing will change ( especially with GSP returning)

So the UFC can terminate whenever they feel like it, but say we have someone like Aldo who's heart is gone for fighting and will proabbly be dangerous to his long term health to fight out his contract is stuck and can't do fuck all?

He can do whatever he want.... just not fight.

If I could double like that comment I would. The hard part would be naming the shade of red Dana's head would become

You can’t throw fights.

I wonder what the legal implications are. You're not letting the guy ko you in a specific round or something. And it's fully within the rules to tap

And you'd ruin all chances of you getting more money or fighting for any other promotion.
