Why can't states determine what groups are permitted in their land ?

Do not citizens of a state have a right to permit what types of groups are permitted as organizations are a matter of choice, unlike race or gender ?

I am a big proponent of state rights and would love to see domestic agitator groups like black lives matter or 3rd wave feminists be made illegal in my state for it. Why is this not legal ? Do we just have to sit by while a federal dictatorship tells states how to live ?

Well, the original secession was based on the horrific crime of black slavery. The slaves had no choice. But those who choose to members of a hate group like blm are not in the same boat. Freedom of speech means you have the right to say something, but that doesn't mean you have the right to behave the manner blm has;

blocking streets and major intersections
demanding black-only safe spaces on campus
promoting violence if Trump wins

Depending on the reasoning used it would or wouldnt hold in court, thats why judges exist.

If the reasons are because they dont like hate speech, then it will be shot down since it conflicts with the 1st amendment.
