Why aren't new films available to stream?

I find it unbelievable that you can't do this today. They easily have the technology to do it so why not?

I'd rather pay

I'd hate to see the death of the cinema but I'd rather there was only one in every city than the three there is where I'm from and having the comfort to watch new releases in my own home.

It would be veeeery easy to copy, and share it on torrent sites. Now its different, you either have to wait a few months, or struggle with shitty camrips, or pay the ticket and go to the cinema.

I'd never go to a theater again if i could pay like 20$ to see a movie in my home.

Hell yeah. I would love to watch all the new movies at home then go to a movie theater. Its would save my money too. 20$ to watch a movie at home and around 30$ at the theater. 10$ ticket, food, popcorn. Etc. Plus not have to sit surround by a bunch of people. Hate people.

streaming movies is nice and all but nothing beats the theate. the problem with watching movies at home is that its too convenient to pause or check your phone during the film, it does not enable the immersion that you get when your sitting in the theater. Going TO the movies is one of the few forms of pure uninterrupted escapism we have. for those 90-180 minutes your in another world(hopefully).

This is not true for everyone, it's certainly not true for me.

I don't need to be forced to actually spend a couple of hours paying attention to a movie.

Like someone said, it would just be THAT much easier to illegally download it the day it comes out.

Because for that $20 you could have 4-5 buddies over to watch it with you. Now if that new xbox tech ever took off where the system could count and record how many people were in front of the television at any given time and thus you could then be billed accordingly ie $10 per person watching the movie at your house - then instant at home availability for new releases would make financial sense for the movie producers.

Also as has been mentioned - high quality pirating would be so easy as well, and free riders will always take anything they can for free if their chances of getting caught are virtually nil.

People are so impatient. What does it matter if you have to wait 2 or 3 months to watch it at home? Are you really just dying to see something that bad, but can't be bothered to actually go see it?

I have a decent home theater set up and vastly prefer watching movies at home to the cinemas. Its not even that expensive to do and I get much more immersion at home.

Also, there is a device available to do this currently. However, the device costs about $35k, and each movie you download is $500.

There are also conditions on its use - you have to have at least a 100" screen, and seating for a maximum of 25 people, and you cannot charge people to watch. You have 24h to watch the movie once, and you can't rewind more than 5 min.

So the technology exists, and it is available to the public. However, you need to be very wealthy to be able to justify an expense like that. Hopefully it will eventually become cheaper but for now it is for only the elite.

Never. I'm not even a fan of digitally shot cinema, yet, or digital DLP's. When I really want to see a movie, or I've heard it has gorgeous cinematography; I want to watch a direct reprint of the master negative projected in film. It's still makes anything at home look like total dogshit, especially on a screen that large. Unfortunately, that's disappearing. Streaming video on the internet is of a particularly terrible quality. Yuck. No thanks.

The theater (cinema and dramatic) is still my church. There's an experience to be had there that can't be had at home.

These days I will only go to the theater for certain films, the ones I feel take full advantage of the medium. Films I believe will be visually spectacular.

Most films are better served in a home theater, without so many unnecessary distractions and potentially awkward location relative to the screen.

I agree there should be the option. Personally, I like the theater ambiance but not every movie is worth it.

On the other hand, it's not hard to just wait for the streaming release. Skip 6 months of movies at the theater and the release schedule for streaming is right there.

This is like bitching about commercials. They need to make money or the product you're enjoying will not exist... People this day of age are so fucking spoiled, that it drives me crazy.
