It’s clear that Maia gasses quite easily against good chain wrestlers . Askren via UD
who cares when Maia gets tired after 1 round ....People also overlook the fact that askren is basically a chubby lightweight. The guy is begging for a 165lb division for a reason. He'd be much smaller than maia.
Shields was juiced to the gills. I expect Maia to win a 3 round fight but lose a 5 rounder due to cardio.
Traditionally a wrestler doesn't need to be as good at BJJ as a BJJ specialist to shut them down in an MMA fight.
Should have told that to Sonnen, or Fitch (a guy who out wrestled Shields but got schooled by Maia). It wasn't shields wrestling that allowed him to edge out two rounds grappling with Maia; it was the conjunction of his wrestling, very high level bjj and striking, askren lacks two of those qualities..
Somebody clearly didn't watch the fight. It was absolutely his wrestling that won him the fight.
Im conflicted, for Bens entire wrestling career everyone wondered WTF he was doing and why the fuck he was doing so well and not getting pinned. But goddamn it seem like he will fall into a a submission.Which again comes back to Shields being far better in BJJ which allowed him to take those risks properly. Askren makes a lot of BJJ mistakes. Shields does not.
Personally, I see this fight being won by Ben via positional dominance.
Glad we agree that you didn't watch the fight.
Well NFL starts soonI just want to see the high level grappling.
