Why are some of you so confident in Maia against Askren?

It’s clear that Maia gasses quite easily against good chain wrestlers . Askren via UD

nah...askrens wrestling is way too good...maia is more of a bjj guy with good wrestling...and askren is a guy with great wrestling, with good bjj...unless maia can somehow get a sub on askren, I don't see him winning this.

Should have told that to Sonnen, or Fitch (a guy who out wrestled Shields but got schooled by Maia). It wasn't shields wrestling that allowed him to edge out two rounds grappling with Maia; it was the conjunction of his wrestling, very high level bjj and striking, askren lacks two of those qualities..

Somebody clearly didn't watch the fight. It was absolutely his wrestling that won him the fight.
 
Colby is actually a much better striker than Ben. I'd never call Colby a good striker but he's good at throwing volume out there to at least make the other guy respect it, like against RDA and Maia.

Maia is a terrible fight for Askren, and probably an ugly fight (if they don't grapple). I don't really care to see it.
 
Lol giving Askren a safe one. Imagine matching him with Perry or another dangerous mofo.

Maia will easily win the stand up if the fight will be a striking contest. On the ground it's gonna be interesting, Ben is great but he's never faced anyone of Maias level.

Why do people talk about Shields and Maia like it was absolute destruction by Shields.

It was a good back and forth from what i remember and it could have gone either way.

But i thought Maia won because i'm a Maia fan.

Im conflicted, for Bens entire wrestling career everyone wondered WTF he was doing and why the fuck he was doing so well and not getting pinned. But goddamn it seem like he will fall into a a submission.

I'm Ieaning that way as well. However if Ben doesn't take him down on his initial entry, I can see him getting himself into trouble . The way Ben scrambles,twist, gives up his back and puts himself in compromising positions to secure position might be an issue. I mean even scrambling with Robbie before he secured the choke is a dangerous position to be in against Maia. I can easily see all that unorthodox shit he does getting him choked.

Yeah this is going to be a pretty weird fight in a good way

Does this just become a kickboxing match? Pre sure Ben would maybe want to avoid the ground unless there's like 30 seconds left so he can score a takedown on the judges cards etc
 
I just hope we get to see a good fight,

most ufc fans haven't seen enough of ben to make an informed opinion.
