Why are people still calling Jon Jones the GOAT?

.... I don't get it.

Before he got caught by USADA I considered Jon the greatest all-time. In fact I didn't even think there was a close 2nd. The wins that he had on his resume were in no doubt the best all-time.

BUT, all that is meaningless now after he got caught by USADA. I have a hard time believing that he only started using PEDs recently. Why would you go on this incredible unbeaten streak and then in the prime of your career decide to start taking? The answer is, OF COURSE he didn't just start taking recently. He had to have been doing it his whole career. You don't start taking AFTER you've had a dominant career. You only start taking when you think you aren't good enough to compete against the best or that you're getting too old. And Jon was in neither of those delemnas.

So IMO 100% of the wins in his career deserve an asterisk. Therefore automatically taking him out of the running for even a top 1000 ranking. He does not deserve to be considered anywhere near the top of the all-time ranks.

because not everyone agrees with you that his usage os steroids mean he wasn't as good or we shouldn't be considering him as good. he was mostly beating fighters who were also likely on steroids. we know sonnen and belfort are cheaters as well for example.

Because PEDs will only get you so much, and the number of guys getting away with doping is probably significantly higher than the number that are getting caught. If you though Jones was the clear #1 all time great before, then it's not crazy to think he is afterwards. Same goes for Anderson. Steroids or not, they were still more skilled than anyone they fought, many of whom were also likely on something.

4 out of the 17 guys Jones has fought in the UFC have been caught for something.
8 out of 19 for Anderson. 9 out of 19 if you count Diaz.

If you think those are the only guys that they fought that were on something, you're in denial. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be suspended, or should only be given short suspensions, but look at their records with your eyes open.

 

He was for sure en route to being the undisputed GOAT, unfortunately he is also the P4P biggest fuck up in MMA.. so there's that..

He's not the GOAT for people are entitled to their opinions. If in their viewing experience and opinion he is the greatest even after all the cheating and doping why get so annoyed?

Hardly anyone does according to recent GOAT polls. He used to be like #1 or 2 and has since fallen to #4 or less behind Fedor, GSP and even Anderson. I think one even had him behind Aldo now.

 

thats actually not an opinion more so a logical reality. he can be considered in a list that includes all that were caught but if you're gonna make a list of guys that have never used PEDs, then Jon would not be on there. I might make an exception for guys who got caught in their late 30s or 40s but not for a guy who is still in his late 20s.

He does not make a legit top 1000 list.

 

Let's put him and Brock in the cage. We will see who the real goat is...
