What makes this guy so special I don't get it, only times I've ever seen him win aside from choking out a shot Mark Munoz and KOing the ghost of Hendo was when he laid on guys. Even laid on OSP in his Strikeforce days. Whooped on by Machida, finished by Souza and Hall, what makes him so impressive exactly??

Agreed, Mousasi is painfully overrated. Guy isn't nearly as talented as his fangirls claim.

He's a very talented fighter. His submission grappling and striking skills are phenomenally high level. Despite his fairly soft, lanky physique he is able to hang on the feet or on the ground with anyone because his of his acumen there.

I don't say this as a fan. As an MMA fighter, I find him inconsistent, frequently lethargic, and a little boring. Also grossly overrated by his fans.

I believe it's his Fedor-like demeanor...

Because some are following a little longer....

the man is 37-6

he fought and beat very dangerous guys much bigger than him
Mark Hunt
Latiffi
Goodridge
Manhoef
he k.o'ed Souza back in the day

to not at least respect and aknowledge the guy's fighting career is just criminal
nobody says he is the UFC goat but long story short the guy is skilled an talented he belongs in the same field as guys like Machida, Hendo and Belfort

People on Sherdog love him for some reason. He doesn't get the same love on other sites. He is like a Michael Bisping in my opinion. He is a solid fighter but not world beater like a lot of sherdogers make him out to be.

What's this? An educated response to TS pathetically thin argument? Job well done.

He's got an 84% finish rate over 37 wins and you think he's a blanket? He's not the second coming like people thought he was, but damn.

Because at one time he didn't fight for the UFC and anyone who has success outside the UFC is hailed a hero and thus becomes a savior for people who dislike the UFC

I think you're missing the whole story. He already had a long career before he came to the UFC, and had an impressive record. You bring up Ronaldo - well he KO'd him their first fight. People get all excited about Mark Hunt teh HW - well he submitted him (that's just to show what type of crazy talent Gegard has). His first poor performance was against Lawal, but Lawal didn't finish him, or out strike him, etc...he just out wrestled him.

I think he had a good fight against Lyota...and you are correct...the second fight against Ronaldo was embarrassing. That one was complete domination. Now, on to Hall - they fight 9 more times and I think Gegard would win all nine. Hall is the one that is over-rated. He is dangerous, but against the top guys he gets exposed. Gegard was seriously out-classing him until the KO.

I don't think Gegard is overrated although I do think that in the current 185 division he falls just a bit short. As I mentioned, I think he would beat Hall in a rematch, he would beat Bisbing if they fought, Not sure what would happen in a rematch with Lyoto...IMO it could go either way. As far as the top guys that leaves Rockhold, Andeson, Weidman, Vitor, Ronaldo, and Romero. Vitor, Anderson, and Romero are a mystery at this point (not sure how they will perform in the future due to their history) - but the other three are too much for Gegard at this point.

Because:

-Fedor esque expression, which some people automatically equates to Fedor-esque in skill
-Anderson haters desperately sticking to any legit non-UFC guy who could beat him
-Video of him schooling Rousey in Judo without even trying

I think the big difference here is that Gegard has had some impressive finishes whereas Bisbing doesn't usually finish fights. The other point who Gegard has actually beaten/finished as compared to Bisbing. Bisbing's last five wins are against Leites, Dollaway, Le, Belcher, and Stann. Geeze. Seriously - he even lost to Tim Kennedy!

Mousasi is one of the most overrated fighters in MMA. Everytime he fights a top fighter he wilts

It's crazy how many haters Mousasi gained when he joined the UFC.
I will always respect him for taking on Musashi and Kyotaro (both former HW champs) in K1 to test his striking.
And obviously all his other achievements that were big at the time, but newbies check his fightfinder page and go "meh, not impressed"

But that's the nature of the game. If Bisping KTFO of Anderson tonight, in 3 or 4 years the new newbies will be like "Ok I need to understand why people give credit to Bisping for finishing a ghost of Silva who was obviously done at this point, #notimpressed

And why are people so impressed with Anderson anyway, [bunch of bullshit to diminish his legacy], am I supposed to believe this can crusher was any good? Even for his era he was average, trust me I've been following MMA since 93, was in the crowd for UFC 1.

In short: you had to be there during his prime to get why hardcore fans like him.
