Why are people hating on Dillashaw for going down in weight to fight Cejudo, TJ is taking the risk?

He is trying to cut the weight to fight the smaller guy. He already cuts to make BW and isn't a small fighter at 135. He is tying up the BW division which has tons of viable contenders and there is no legit reason for it. Originally he wanted to be the one to take out DJ (Still bigger guy going after smaller guy aka Pussy) but DJ lost to Cejudo. Henry has no defenses yet and TJ has one. DJ moving up was the only legit reason for a fight with TJ. He comes off very douchey as well and isn't risking anything. He actively lobbied against Cruz & Cody getting a title shot but never wanted to defend against anyone else. I am not a fan of Henry and frankly he isn't the best FlyW IMO as he lost to DJ both times. TJ needs to defend the BW belt and if he wins at FlyW he will walk away like Nunes is trying to do with Women's FW.

So say TJ had defended the BW belt a few times and there wasn't any real competition left and Henry had done the same thing, then you'd only have a problem with TJ going down in weightclass?

Risking what? He is trying to win a belt without any risks. Cejudo will not hurt or finish him. If TJ loses he can just say it's because of a weight cut and his belt is not on the line.

Basically he is not risking anything.

I agree.

And the argument that he's risking his health with an extreme weight cut is a very strong argument against fights like this.

Pretty much. If you have cleared out a division the challenge is moving up not down. BJ Penn as the reigning LW champion (& former WW champ because there was no LW division at the time) went up to challenge GSP not down. TJ is a very healthy sized BW. The only fighter who went down and I don't think is a pussy is Frankie since he was a BW/FW fighting at LW. I think all fighters should have to weigh in the limit of their weight class for their entire 6 week camp prior to the fight. For example WW = 156- 170 not a 195 lb guy who weighs 170 for all of 5 minutes to weigh in. Guys cut weight to fight smaller guys for an advantage and then everyone has to do it.

Totally agree.

It's a bitch move to ask someone else to make the change and come to your division.

But if you're the one doing the weight change it's fine, whether your going up or down, it's out of your supposed optimum weight and thus should not be criticized.

Is a bitch move, he should be fighting Max.

When we have champion vs. champion fights one fighter is always from the class below, and one from the class above.

I am a TJ fan for making the move along with Cejudo acceptance. To bad DJ did not like his situation in UFC. His manager having different alliances likely a factor.

No one knows his natural walk around weight, so no one can say how bad this weight cut was for him or how much it might deplete him, especially if he had a good nutritionist.

You know Cejudo is probably about the same size, right? The UFC used to force him to fight at 135 because he kept missing weight at 125, so chances are neither guy had any tougher of a weight cut than the other.

Exactly.

And when he said days ago that he would like to go up to face Max, the sherdogers said that he is delusional and stupid.

The guys here just like to hate. Pathetics.

What’s he risking? His belt isn’t on the line. He continues as the champ he already was no matter the outcome. I’d say he has the advantage, Henry doesn’t have the luxury of watching tape because for all we know tj will have to have a different approach due to the weight cut, maybe not but the point is Henry has more pressure not knowing what to expect, does he look like shit from the cut, is he even better at this weight class, will he fight different because of the cut etc. Besides, this is the division everybody says sucks so bad, it’s the division getting closed down it’s so bad, doesn’t sound like much of an accomplishment winning there.

If tj tried to go up to fw he would get murdered. That would be great!

TJ isnt risking anything though, he has everything to gain by dehydrating to fight a smaller guy just to grab a 2nd belt for a photo op before the division is closed. If he somehow loses they can blame it on the weight cut depleting him and shit, its a no-lose situation for TJ, he keeps his 135 belt regardless, Cejudo loses a belt & his job if he loses this fight.

When you lose you still lose stock.

If he goes to renegotiate his fight contract being on an undefeated streak is better than having a recent loss for sure.
