This is not only a poor reflection on paper what happened, but it also pads the stat of the "winner" and hurts the perception of the "loser". I don't think that Holloway should have inflated (t)ko finishes due to this etc. I like Holloway and I'm indifferent about how the fight played out, it just sucks to see an injury pigeonholed as a technical knock out. INJ would be a better reflection of the victory, no?
he was technically knocked out of the fight. He was unable to continue due to to legal actions that happened in the fight. TKO is the correct term.
TKO (Eso****us Injury) is the official decision on sherdog's fight finder, so at least they add the (due to) injury part. edit: damn censors...
Yeah I know that they add the general cause of injury, it's still weird because it's considered in overall victory breakdown/losses etc.
i agree- it's a bit misleading if you only see the official result. but that's the way the cookie crumbles. many fighters have decision losses on their records when the general consensus is that they won the fight. and in those cases, there's no qualifier next to the "L" on their record.
Just think about it this way. If max had kicked oliveras arm and broke it so he was in able to continue would that be a justifiable tko in your opinion?
Correct. TKO is declared when the referee or official ring physician decide that a fighter cannot safely continue the match. Types of technical knockouts: * Doctor's stoppage/injury: The fighter has suffered an injury and cannot continue the match safely. * Corner stoppage: The fighter is being completely battered, to the point where it is becoming dangerous. In some cases, the fighter may have suffered an injury. The corner of the fighter decides to surrender on the fighter's behalf to prevent unnecessary damage or potential injury. (This is also known as "throwing in the towel".) * Stoppage because of strikes: The fighter is overwhelmed by strikes and cannot intelligently defend himself. The referee intervenes to avoid unnecessary damage or potential injury. A technical knockout goes down as a knockout in the fighter's record.
Its a fine line but if you watch the replay the injury occured due to something holloway did so agree with the tko, but imo they should reschedule the fight immediately as soon as oliveira gets cleared
Nothing else to call it. Take back Fedor's loss because of doctors stoppage? Shitty deal but it happened.
