Why are heavier (and bigger) people harder to KO?

And has the size of head anything do with it? Is a light weight with a big head harder to render unconciouss?

Would Julian Jackson be able to step into a heavyweight ring and KO people? Given his "superhuman" power? Or are we tricked by how easily lighter people get K oed?

The mechanism of the KO is that when punched at the head, your brain vibrates inside your skull which signal some kind of defensive mechanism to protect your brain iirc.
Bigger people have heavier head, stronger neck (in general) so it is harder to shake their brains inside their skulls (in general as well)

What about short heavyweights with small heads in K1 fights? Why are some of them, like Andy Hug, never knocked unconsiouss? Did Hug train up his neckmuscle in some way?

Look at his neck bro ...

real question is why are folks with narly beards incapable of being hurt

Well the decent HWs you see at the top of combat sports probably wouldn't make it that far with questionable chins considering the power of their opponents.

If they can handle the power of other HWs I don't doubt they could handle the guys from the lower weights unless if some really great punchers hit them clean somehow.

Size of the head, neck strength (and it being short) and just the natural structure of your brain seem to be the most important things with structure of the brain probably being the most important and that's why some guys have great chins and others don't and no neck training in the world will turn a glass chin into a great one kinda like punching power.

But the other 2 factors correlate with size.

Also a bigger person will get pushed and knocked around less by strikes so they will be in better postiion after getting hit and people will probably try to score more and not overwhelm them physically which might also be a minor advantage.

Oh and another thing might be is that at heavier weights glass chins might just get filtered out quickly because everyone hits harder so the fighters who are left at the end have to have good chins, same reason why boxers on average seem to have better chins than MMA fighters it's just natural selection

so can you raise KO endurance by like... bridging? or how do you increase neck strength

One thing that isn’t being discussed is the weight drain. Heavier fighters are not affected by it as much. Cutting 15lbs is going to have a different effect for a bantam weight than it is for a light heavyweight. Heavyweights don’t cut at all. Despite hitting lighter, lighter weight classes have a similar, if not higher, KO ratio than the bigger guys. Being dehydrated can’t be good for your brain’s ability to absorb impact.

Is it true that being in better cardiovascular shape means you're less likely to be KOed or is that not really a factor? Thought I heard Joe Rogan or someone mention that.

Neck can't have anything to do with KOs against the chin... I mean there's not that much force needed once you hit it clean.

I have a question for you guys: given that I am in the wrong weight class for my bodytype (186.3 centimeters), and possess a fairly large skull size, does it mean that I am likely harder to KO than my lightweight peers?

You get ko'd because your brain bounces against your skull and shuts off. Your neck stabilizes your head so obviously it matters. And it isn't that easy to knock someone out even against the chin Ive been hit to the chin cleanly only a few days ago for example even if it wasn't the hardest punch ever and I was fine

The glabella seems to be very hard to be Ko:ed at. I've been knocked down by a balcony (looked down at the phone), blood gushing out of my face, but no concussion. I took my self to the hospital. Security guards took a photograph of my face, it was so busted up and bloodied up.

I wasn't even shooken up by the impact.

Its riskier to fight bigger guys so you'll probably be more cautious?
