Why are gi's so expensive?

because of the cost of production is so high. Fabric cost, cutting, pattern making, embroidery, dying, sewing, labels, advertising and packaging. believe me,it all adds up fast.
Plus the company has to make a profit to continue purchasing new materials.

Also, JJ gis are really think and usually double or even triple stitched - that also adds up. Karate and TKD gis are much cheaper because the fabric and stitching is not so expensive.

Are they really that expensive? You can get a very good, long-lasting jiu jitsu gi for $75. It's not as if you need to buy a new gi every year. A lot of people spend more on shoes or even jeans than I do on gis.

Every time I wash my Gameness platinum weave, I'm impressed anew about the work that was put into making it.

for what they are and the time you get out of them i think that the cost is pretty reasonable. I've had 70 dollar jeans that last me 6 months if i was lucky

I have to agree with the posters here, I found myself complaining about gi prices until I realized I have had my judo gi for at least 6 years.

I really high end gi which ran me $150 has lasted me over 7 years so that works out to $21 a year. Not too bad.

I've also had cheap gis $75 last me less then a year.
