why are boxing shoes so high?

i mean it comes way above the ankle and is higer than basketball shoes? What's the reasoning behind that?

Yup. There's a lot of shuffling and foot pivoting compared to something like basketball. A high shoe means lots of support for your ankles.
 
There are all kinds. Most of the ones that go above the ankles are for support. But there are the ones that goes just below the knee. I think those are more for style if you like them. I personally prefer the 12 inch ones.

i kinded of wondered that but yea it is for higher support because of all the shuffles
