Is there something I'm missing here? People think he's unqualified to post videos, apparently... but they appear to be high quality, clear instructions for no-gi bjj. There are also videos of instructions from Eddie Bravo and other instructors... so what's the beef? He isn't hurting you and isn't claiming to be the Alpha and Omega of BJJ...

Someone has clearly not searched too hard on this, this topic has been discussed for ages...

idk i think its the 10th planet system that rubs people the wrong way, hes one of the posterboys for it so..

this portion of your comment makes me wonder how long you've been training.

my guess is less than 6 months.

Long story short.

1. His credentials are suspect
2. He was deliberately deceptive with his belt rank
3. His instructional while decent video quality range from sloppy to outright wrong technique
4. He make money off of the above stated practices

See, that's what I was looking for. Was he wearing his judo black belt at first without telling people he was only a purp in bjj?

Poor guess.

Show me better videos?

While I'm certainly not as experienced as some others here, I've heard very good things about Aesopian's videos/blog. IIRC, he was in the running for best BJJ blog for the Fightworks Podcast for the last couples years as well.

He's a ***-JJ blackbelt and he'd wear that belt while teaching BJJ.

wow, tough request...

http://www.aesopian.com/

http://www.grapplearts.com/Grappling-Techniques.htm

both very good resources. or go to youtube and type in the name of ANY reputable black belt and find properly performed techs demonstrated and explained correctly. for example...

holy crap, that was multiple time world champ and all around bad ass saulo ribiero! it took about 15 seconds to find that....

and just to show you that it isn't just a 10th planet hate fest this blog shows techniques performed properly...

http://www.10thplanetwatch.com/

interesting, a whole blog devoted to 10th planet and not a single instructional by ari bolden. makes ya wonder...

the reason i asked about how long you were training is that i would expect people with 18 months of training with a proper instructor would see the technical flaws of the techs that he posts.

Man, you are clearly just a hater. Just cuz those guys are black belts doesn't mean they are the best at teaching through videos... http://www.youtube.com/user/BuffaloBJJ, really?

Aesopian is a better resource for sure. But even the best have technical flaws. I just think Sub101 has simple, short videos that shows the basics of techniques, not that it's the be-all end-all.

I think he should have guessed less than 6 weeks. Anyone who does not think Ari's instructional videos are of shoddy character probably does not even know how to shrimp properly yet. no offense.

Because he sucks, man. I'm 5'6 130 lbs and I wouldn't tap out to Joe Rogan smothering me. The guy is a quack. It doesn't mean some people don't love him. It's like Randy Couture's acting: a joke compared to someone who is a legitimate theater student.

But by all means, go ahead and enjoy his videos. That's great that you like them, bro. Hats off to you.

whats wrong with the buffalobjj channel? guys a brown belt who is showing the tornado roll which is crucial to regaining guard, improving hip movement and playing inverted guard. especially at purple belt or higher level.

He is very good at teaching a guard that is very difficult to describe. Better than Ari for sure.

rhythmythyc ,
You haven't answered our question. How long have you trained and who have you been training under?

I would like to say that Ari came down and trained with us and he is one hell of a great guy. I would say he is a friend now. No matter what you think about his bjj, he loves the art and is trying to better the sport in his own way the best way he knows. I really feel anyone can learn from anyone. Even if the techniques are not as advanced as your skill, it can open up some thought and spark a new path of training. My instructor is a black belt and he says he still likes seeing moves from all his students. Granted he has to correct a lot of mistakes, but once in a while I might show him something that in concept he might not have seen or thought of in a long time. I hope Ari comes back down to Idaho again and we can train and roll again. I will still go to his website to see what is up up in Canada.
