Last night while bored from watching the usual display of average fight iq from ufcs latest card, I decided to switch over and binge watch videos of a fighter that has truly made mma interesting to me again lately.

I came to the conclusion that while perhaps not the most perfect comparison (since cro cop was a high kick artist primarily and Alex a left hook artist) both fighters are essentially one strike ko setup artists who are/were succesful at setting up their main strike by opening up their opponents' defense 'the right way' first. This type of chess induces more fear in their opponents than the other typical mix ups like striking to set up takedowns and strategically point fighting and doing just enough to win. That lack of finishing talent truly separates the pack from the rest. Fighting a guy that is truly looking to viciously knock you out has a deeper psychological effect upon opponents, and that fear alone can make them commit critical errors and bad decisions that lead to fight ending results.

Both have secondary strikes that are equally as deadly (like cro cops' straight and body kick, and Alex's flying knee and kicks from many angles) which they use to force opponents into loosening their guards.

To me this is what mma is about, high fight iq-fun mma to watch...it's always must see TV for me when fighters like these are competing.

Here are two vids for your delight, have a fun Sunday people.

^^^ This fight for example which was Alex's debut in mma, was more fun to watch than anything we saw last night (to me).

This guy is just a beast, truly special and I'm glad the ufc picked him up, plus he's gunning for izzy which is awesome cause I want him to spoil ufcs push of him.

Cheers

Alex Pereira has one of the best frames for his style, long limbs, tall, fast and he has a good grappling team behind him with Glover.

Here you have some more KO’s:

And the highlights video of his two title-fights against Artem Vakhitov show high-level technical kickboxing over 5 rounds:

Style wise really I think its more your classic Brazilian MT fighter who happened to do very well in kickboxing

Thank you Dr. Obvious for the manifesto describing how knockout artists are mor exciting than takedown artists.

I miss Cro Cop so much. Hopefully his son takes over where he left off

he posted this today

And this last month

I'm sorry but that's an insult to Alex Pereira...

Pereira is fighting in sanctioned bouts, under USADA testing...

None of that unfair advantage that CroCop received backstage... None of that special treatment because he was a big Draw - being told who his opponents would be months out, whereas his opponent (Heath Herring) was told he would be fighting a Wrestler, and BAM fight week Heath is told he's fighting CroCop.

Yea... there's a reason CroCop utterly failed in the UFC, over 3 different periods.

Love what he did in Pride, was a big fan... but facts are facts: CroCop failed in sanctioned MMA repeatedly, and not to mention he would admit to using HGH.

Pereira is much better already at this point.

Another thing: on fight night, they almost weight the same even though Mirko fought 2 divisions heavier. In the later career of Mirko, he weighted around 230, in his prime he was around 220 (OWGP Mirko was 218)

c'mon , its a shame to put Alex and Corcop together.
there is nothing to compare the level of competition of prime Mirko with Alex.
Alex was fihting no names where Mirko was fighting the K-1 legends.

both Alex and Izzy are levels below

I just want him to defeat Izzy. Nothing personal against him but he bores me to death and seems very uninspired. Make Middleweight Great Again.

Perreira is not better than Izzy, skill-wise. Power-wise he definitely is. If you watched their last fight, you would know that Izzy has a lot of chances to take that one.

That being said, I don't like Perreira for very simple reason. He is not someone who can defend title multiple times if he wins it. He struggled with extremely mediocre competition. Boys in top 5 will do the same, only easier. He is perfect dance partner for Adesanya, but I can see someone like Vettori grind him to decision with ease.

That being said x2, Perreira is really good at what he does and I hope for a great fight against Izzy, whoever wins.
