Any Chael fight is up for grabs at all times. Fedor lately......
Fack, who knows anymore?
Fedor in his prime was a beast who survived Minotauro's sub attempts but right now chael since he's been wrestling his entire life and by the time he entered Gracie Barra he was at most a blue belt. Now he's a brown belt (i think) and he went to ADCC so at this moment chael.
"was" being the important term. Fedor is currently a mediocre one dimentonal brawler for reasons i honestly fail to understand. I honestly think he doesnt give a shit anymore.
Chael's MMA wrestling has never been very good.
His regular wrestling is great and anyone vulnerable to high level regular wrestling in MMA (and there are a lot) will be vulnerable to Chael. However anyone not vulnerable to regular wrestling (have great subs, etc) is not vulnerable to Chael or any regular wrestler fighter. Think of the early UFC days when guys with just BJJ could dominate even if they did not adapt their BJJ to MMA. Guys just could not defend even pure BJJ.
Chael is lucky that he fought in a generally weak MW division during his prime as I cannot think of any other top wrestling based fighter in any other division who did not adapt their wrestling well to MMA (great sub defense, etc) in order to be competitive in their division.
Mma is crazy. This is really a thread.
Overall, Fedor has had better mma grappling than Sonnen and it’s not close. Sonnen can’t defend a triangle to save his life.
Sonnen may be better than Fedor now due to Fedor’s mileage. That’s it. Prime Fedor turns Sonnen into a pretzel.
People are gonna fuck around and sleep on Chael until he's the Bellator Heavyweight World Champion haha
Who would've ever thought "Champion" would be included in a Chael conversation?
He tossed Mir pretty nicely.
Chael will almost certainly be able to take down Fedor and have great success on the ground and in the judges score cards, Fedor will need a miracle submission or TKO to win.
Fedor used to be such a great grappler, with incredible takedowns....
...now, he so rarely tries anything that even tripping Mir to the ground for like 2 seconds is a cause for celebration and nostalgia.
Fedor is my all time favourite fighter and its he who got me into MMA, I wish hed stayed retired, if he gets beaten by friggin Sonnen it will be a very sad day indeed
With them being close in size I wouldnt mind a good grappling match, seeing who can counter who in the clinches and on the ground. Chael will throw hands on his TD entrances, this is Fedors time to catch him.
They are the same age bro
>Implying Fedor is actually watching tape on Sonnen or being given any advice like this whatsoever
>Implying he won't just go out and brawl while being woefully underprepared for any grappling
>Implying Sonnen can't realistically knock him down with a single punch
Yea but Leo Vieira's like 50 years old now so....
Fedor might pull off a rolling knee bar ala Oleg Taktarov circa 1995
Chael has an explosion shot and very solid top control...very hard to sweep, he has some good submission ability from the top. Chaels grappling is very solid, much better than people give him credit for. He had some holes defensively earlier on but seems to have improved with time. He is pretty poor from the guard though.
Fedor is all round better everywhere, much more tools in the clinch, much better in the guard, solid top control. That said, we haven't seen much of Fedors grappling ability lately...they could be pretty evenly matched these days. Chael is def faster and has put on some mass, Fedor is still the bigger guy but he may not have that huge strength advantage he may once had.
Fedors grappling is far more well rounded. Hes a grappling champion . Sonnen in a lay and pray wrestlefucker. He got subbed by a silva.... Fedor got subbed once.. By werdum... Best bjj at hw by far.
