Anyone ever try this?

The Basic Premise is:
-no sugar
-no grains
-no dairy
-no alcohol
-no processed foods
-no legumes

It seems pretty hardcore and I've had some friends claim success.

Thoughts?

If you undertake a diet that greatly reduces your food choices it will almost certainly reduce your caloric intake. Reducing your caloric intake will generally promote weight loss. So yeah. It will work. For a bit anyway untill you get tired of it or learn to still overeat on allowed foods.

You're exactly right: if one is inclined to overeat they will do it on whatever food is available or allowed on the diet. I'm not sure what this diet is but if it truly is anything like Paleo then the premise is simple and two fold: Control insulin by reducing carbs and carbs should be from vegetables, not whole grains or legumes. It has nothing to do with counting calories, however on any diet it is implied that one must not gorge themselves.

it's called the paleo diet. nothing new. people brag about doing it on the forums on Mark Sisson's website all the time.

I like some of their articles, but Melissa just comes off as an annoying bitch in her writing.

Having said that, its a super strict paleo diet, they suggest you follow it 100% for 30 days - one of the major reasons being to break your addiction to certain foods like sugar.

Like I said their articles are good most of the time, but what I find it really annoying is their elitist attitude bashing Mark Sisson and MDA for folling the 80/20 rule and allowing things like red wine and dark chocolate.

You'd pretty much have to be a sendintary blob that did no physical activity for this to work....

Explain how you've come to think exercise is predicated upon eating any of those foods?
