If you undertake a diet that greatly reduces your food choices it will almost certainly reduce your caloric intake. Reducing your caloric intake will generally promote weight loss. So yeah. It will work. For a bit anyway untill you get tired of it or learn to still overeat on allowed foods.
You'd pretty much have to be a sendintary blob that did no physical activity for this to work....
