Rogan suggested that last weeks Nagannou vs Lewis fight may have been the worst fight in UFC history.

He must have forgot about UFC 9.

The hype was huge for UFC 9. A rematch between two UFC pioneers. I’ll never forget being a kid and going to my dojo to watch the fight. I was so excited for it, and then we somehow ended up with this....59D6E8AA-B158-4F50-A984-031BC478C121.jpeg
for thirty minutes. Shamrock and Severn literally circled each other for 27 or so minutes. Finally with a few minutes left in regulation, there’s a fury of action. Then comes overtime. And we all think,”oh, they’re going to go right back to beating the hell out of each other. But Nope! They go right back to circling each other. By far the lamest fight in UFC history.

Forgot about a fight that happened..... in 1996. You mean most of them have definitely not seen a 22 year old fight, right?

Meh.

Which turd in the punch-bowl had the stinkier aroma?

A shit fight is a shit fight.

Did everyone say that UFC is dying after that fight

dude, Shamrock Severn was at the very beginning . they were pioneers. how can you make such stupid comparisons?

UFC was such a odd ball thing then, that it was hard to find people who watched it consistently. However, I admit that after that fight, or around that period, I bailed on the UFC for a while until the early 2000’s.

But..U only forgot ONE thing: was not their fault, they were not allowed to punch [to the head] ...

Wasn't that the fight where some namby-pamby court only allowed it go on if the fighters agreed not to punch with closed fists??

Ngannou-Lewis didn't have anything approaching that kind of an excuse. Therefore, worse.

I’m not denying they are pioneers. Actually I literally say it in my post. But this fight, by far is the worst fight in UFC history. Try and sit through it.

TBF that detail gets kind of lost over time. The fight was THAT long ago, that commissions would still insist on weird rules at the last minute or it couldn't be sanctioned.

It was actually due to one politician´s interference IIRC...

I still remember as a kid getting that UFC tape from blockbuster video. I was sooooo exited because events were few and far between back then (from what I remember).

That fight was so bad.. I don't think even 1 punch was thrown the entire fight.. it was all just feints and circling. Then in the last dying seconds someone shot a takedown, it failed but that won them the fight (or something along those lines).

I don't remember any of the other fights on the card, but looks like it was actually a good event overall.. lots of stoppages:

Even if you exclude relics like that and only count Zuffa-era UFC, there's still Gabriel Gonzaga - Kevin Jordan. I'm willing to bet everything anyone has ever had that you've never been as relieved when a fight ends and that you'll never forget to bring that match up when people talk about boring... anything.

If memory serves me correctly, Shamrock got on top for a few minutes and did nothing. Then Severn got on top for 30 seconds and almost murdered Shamrock’s face in only 30 seconds. Then all of the action was over.

Mir vs Crocop was awful too. Don't let the wiki results showing a ko fool you. That fight was terrible.
