Rogan Talks McGregor Fighting At 170 Pounds

During an edition of his JRE MMA Show, Rogan gave his take on why McGregor has decided to fight Cerrone at welterweight (via MMAFighting.com).

“Because Conor doesn’t want to lose any weight,” Rogan said. “I think that guy tortured himself to get down to 145 so hard – and when you look at what he looked like when he was on the scale, when he was flexing, he looked like a . . . zombie. It was horrible! So I think, whether he complains or not about that, nobody rides for free. You do that to your body for a couple of years, you do some damage and it makes it harder to lose the weight afterwards.

“So then he’s going up to 155. He’s obviously elite at 155, wins the title at 155, has the great rematch with Diaz at 170 and then comes back and fights Khabib at 155 and gets mauled. He has a fight with Cowboy; he’s really a 155er that can fight welterweight. That’s the right size for him. Plus I don’t think Nate is fighting [at] 155 anymore.”

He has a chance with the smaller strikers. The bigger wrestlers would khabib him. I think Thompson is probably his most potential high profile win. You could argue Masvidal is a higher profile fighter(who i think he could beat) but masvidal is just getting hyped right now and tbh it doesnt seem to be working too well.

Conor didn't want to fight at 155 because losing at that weight would be the nail in the coffin for him.

He wants a tune up fight with low stakes, get paid.

There's literally no one else besides Diaz / Cowboy that Conor could take in the top 10.

I think Conor is a bit undersized at WW. Lol at Usman, Colby, Woodley, Wonderboy... Conor would be a heavy underdog against any of these dudes, I give him a 1/10 chance of winning.

Against Masvidal, Edwards, Ponzi, who are more likely to engage him in the type of striking match he favours, but are bigger and more powerful than almost anyone he's fought, I'd give him about a 1/4 chance.

RDA and Lawler are more likely to brawl with him, though RDA has good grappling, but he underutilizes it and is a hit and miss fighter. Maia is 42 years old and his striking isn't great, however, if it goes to the ground for a second, Conor dies. I'd give him a 50% chance against them. I think he beats Nate.

No chance he beats the elite of the division... Would go with Lawler and Dos Anjos as fights he should win with serious training and Nate and Masvidal that he could beat but also smashed... His best bet at 170 is go for the BMF... Usman and Covington would do him like Khabib did, maybe worse...
