Communists don't value human life, except insofar as it provides value to the party, so protests like this are easily expunged. Probably requires jailing forty or fifty thousand people and executing probably only ten thousand or so.

The only chance Hong Kong has is if these protests start garnering support from the mainland population, but that's a long shot. Ultimately, any truly socialist or communist state can't coexist with the kind of freedoms Hong Kong is demanding.

When the Trump admin passed a motion condemning the Chinese behavior, the Chinese got a lot of Muslim nations to defend China's actions.
