Not the most talked about guy and couldn't find any news on this.
Any word? How would a move to 135 go? Demetrious Johnson is in a position where he could actually just abandon his division if he wanted too and no one could say he still has a bunch of contenders to fight.

MM ain't leaving FLW until he beats Andersons title defence record of 10. Andersons real record is 11 though. Lutter didn't make weight. So MM won't move up until he beats that, even if it means fighting guys nobody has ever heard of.

Nobody that anyone gives 2 shits about that's for sure.

Or he continues until he beats gsp's record of 12 total belts since he will be so close

I can see why he'd choose to do that, but Anderson isn't famous for his number of title defences, but because of the guys he beat. If MM is striving for greatness he should take that into account.

To me it seems like MM is a very humble man who is genuinely enjoying life and doesn't really feel the need to validate himself in the eyes of others. That's all fine and good, but since he has literally cleared his divison I think the time should be now for him to move up. Dodson, a guy he beat soundly, has proven he can hang with the top already.

Dunno...

But, he's not moving up until he breaks Anderson's record of consecutive successful defences. One more to tie. 2 to break it, IIRC.

I was really hoping Cruz would retain his belt, until that epic Super Fight went down.

And there is ZERO doubt in my mind that MM would have avenged that loss in spectacular fashion. Becoming a true current dual weight champion.

I don't think it's the guys he beat, it's the fashion in which he beat a lot of them (i.e. knockouts or subs that people thought only existed in the movies). Nobody really cares about James Irvin, Travis Lutter, Thales Leites, Yushin Okami...and it's not like people think whoever beat Rich Franklin or Nate Marquardt deserves to go down in history as the greatest champion, even if guys like Rich and Nate were good fighters. It's because of his "matrix shit" that people remember Anderson so favorably. In fact, he's often criticized for strength of schedule.

Somebody better always comes along in due course.

But not really rightly so. No one mentions these guys among his top wins, but Marquard had a decent run coming in to the Anderson fight and afterwards he went on to beat Kampmann, Maia among others, only losing to Okami and Sonnen until his loss streak in recent years. Okami is another one who got discredited hard because of the performance he put on against Anderson, but before that he was seen as a valid top contender, only losing to Sonnen and Franklin in the UFC. Now I'm not saying these guys would've made it in current UFC MW divison even in their primes, but they're all legit fighters. They just lack the old-school mystique somehow. You see many Fedor fans putting Randleman in the list of his notable wins, while no Anderson fan would do that with Marquardt, but looking strictly at their careers I feel Marquardt was about an equally good fighter as Randleman was for his weight class. Just no as entertaining.

/Anderson defence rant done

J.B. for the third time...

Then a trilogy with Benavidez.
