Who is this Chris Algieri (Provodnikov next opponent)

He's a club fighter taking too big of a step up. He's a pretty decent boxer actually, but no power to keep provodnikov honest.

Provodnikov is one dimensional, so if he has issues with Algieri, he'll probably lose.

I've never read so much waffling in this short of a post.

He's a Jr welter version of Delvin Rodriguez, another lanky 5'11" guy who gives up his reach. Ruslan will have no problem getting inside and will hurt Algieri.

I anticipate this fight will look like Cotto vs. Delvin

Well, Algieri is an unknown for the most part. Anyone picking Algieri will just be guessing but the little I've seen of him, he's a mobile boxer with no power.

That said, look who Provodnikov has lost to. Herrera and Bradley. Good boxers with no power.

Provodnikov has no ability to adjust in a fight. He just plods in throwing an overhand and wings wild hooks at guys on the ropes.

There's really know way to know if Algieri can handle that.

Here's an Algieri fight so people can get an idea what he's about.

Algieri is the last Argentine standing.

I suspect Provodnikov will land the overhand over the jab.

I've trained/sparred with him before....He moves really well and has good speed, but I don't like this fight for him. If he can survive the early rounds, I think he has a chance, but the first 6 rounds are going to be really really dangerous for him.

I will try to upload some sparring I had with him if I can figure it out.

I've never seen this guy fight before live. Just hoping Ruslan takes care of business.

He becomes a serious candidate for the pacman fight if Juan turns it down. Same cornermen too, would be interesting.

i agree aligeri can outbox him in spots..but since he can't hurt ruslan and doesn't throw w/the volume to keep him off either; i think ruslan eventually walks him down and runs him over.

aligeri is a tough experienced guy w/ SOME skills; but he is not anywhere near bradley, mayweathers level of boxing skills in regards to footwork or positioning or counters, he is a better boxer than alvarado. But hasn't shown alvarado chin/durability or power...

Is Algieri basically just a warmup fight for Provodnikov to work on some things before his promoters get him someone bigger, or are Provodnikov's people just unable to find him someone to fight? Or is Algieri an actual contender?

Honestly, it feels like a handpicked opponent to generate interest in a potential Pac/Provodnikov fight to me.

Provodnikov won't get hurt badly because Algieri can't punch, he has a flashy looking record and Pac needs an opponent in a few months.

At worst, they get a new hype job in Algieri to feed to the Rios/Alvarado/Marquez trio.

I'm hoping Algieri runs a bit. We know Provodnikov can brawl. I wanna see if he can box.

People are terrified to fight Prov...JMM blatantly ducked him (can't blame him, I would too).

Provnikov should run right over this guy...he's -600 favorite to win.

Then again, crazier things have happened in boxing...

I hope Provo loses, so people quit hyping him. Theirs no depth to his game. He's slightly better then Rios. I like the come forward punchers as much as the next guy, but guys Like Rios and Provo who plod forward with no thought to the game or defense and just throw their punches don't interest me. They always get outboxed.

Matthysse & Maidana > Provo & Rios

And I don't think Provo is going to fight Pac. Roach trains them both doesn't he? That's not an absolute road block but it is one.

I sort of agree. I really don't want to see any provodnikov PPVs.

You say this about any guy that fight fans like.
What's the deal?

If there's a brawler and people in general like him, you don't.

I don't like brawlers for the most part. I really don't see paying 70 dollars for a Provodnikov fight.

Sorry about that.

Seems like everyone today is concerned with what sort of fighter I like and what I don't.
