RDA was a career journeyman who looked like a small lightweight. He puts on some serious muscle, goes to kings mma, and implemented a brutal pressure game and mauls his opponent with ground and pound.

Who has been designated as a journeyman/gatekeeper who maybe is a change or 2 away from putting it all together to become a legit contender/champion?

Maybe Masvidal, although he is a whiner

BW - Rivera on that tear now
FW - Division slayed...just kidding...Artem
LW - Barboza on that tear now i feel
WW - Nelson
MW - Mousasi on that tear now
LW - Davis/Bader ???
HW - Cigano

Lol why would anyone say Khabib? He's the exact opposite of the fighter described in the OP.

Masvidal has always had the talent - boxing, defence, chin...he just hasn't put it all together yet. Maybe him?

I agree, Masvidal is always someone people thought was good but no one ever saw him as a serious contender. He looks great at 170 and maybe there will be more activity from him so he doesn't lose by split decision anymore

I wouldn't call him a journeymen, since he's always had the skills, and was a beast, even before joining Kings, and training with Nick Curson. The only reason why I think people thought he burst onto the scene is because of the Khabib fight, theb going on a tear after that.

He was always good, people just didn't know hiow great Kahbib was, and didn't know there was some Russian guy, that was wrestling bears, and flat out dominant on the ground.

If you put a gun to my head, and made me pick a fighter that would beat pro kickboxers, and boxers on the elite level, I'd pick Kahbib, and have him take on any sttiker, at or near his weight class.

Cerrone, Barbosa, Masvidal, Maia, Gastelum and Mousasi seems like possible contenders in the near future who up until now was mostly regarded as solid gate keepers.

Rivera, Swanson (completely depends on wether Aldo stays at FW), Larkin and Jacare could potentially be as well.

Barboza has definitely improved defensively and is more poised. I think a fight with him and Nate Diaz makes sense

Mas is unproven so far he needs another fight before Cerrone. Masvidal's best win is a fading Ellenberger. Huh?
